Last week, we handled a time-critical pharmaceutical air shipment from Mumbai to London - with a 24-hour delivery mandate.
This wasn’t just another shipment.
A hospital procedure was dependent on it.
The Challenge:
* Extremely tight 24-hour window
* Limited air freight capacity
* UK customs clearance typically takes 4vto 6 hours (we had 2)
* Strict temperature control requirement
* Zero tolerance for documentation errors
What we did differently:
Instead of reacting, we controlled the entire chain in advance:
* Pre-secured premium air freight capacity
* Pre-cleared documentation with UK authorities
* Temperature-controlled handling end-to-end
* Dedicated ground team on standby in London
* Direct coordination with hospital team
* Real-time monitoring with hourly updates
Execution Timeline:
* 0–4 hrs: Packaging + airport transfer
* 4–20 hrs: Air transit
* 20–21 hrs: Fast-track customs clearance
* 21–23 hrs: Final delivery
Result:
✔ Delivered in 23 hours (1 hour ahead of deadline)
✔ Zero customs delays
✔ Temperature maintained within ±0.5°C
✔ Shipment received in perfect condition
The outcome?
A critical medical procedure continued without disruption.

India’s Economy is “Slipping”… or Just Shifting? 🤔
You might have seen the news that India slipped to the 6th largest economy.
Sounds scary, right?
But here’s the truth 👇
This is less about weakness… and more about how global trade is changing.
📦 What’s really happening (in simple terms):
* Exports are not growing fast
* Imports are getting expensive
* Global demand is slowing down
👉 Which means:
Goods are moving… but not as smoothly or profitably as before
🚢 Where does logistics come in?
Most people think logistics is just “transport.”
It’s not.
Today, logistics decides:
* Will your cargo reach on time ⏳
* Will your cost stay under control 💰
* Will your shipment clear without delays 📄
👉 One mistake = lost profit
👉 One delay = lost customer
⚠️ Real problems businesses are facing:
* Freight rates going up
* Port delays & compliance issues
* Sudden disruptions (war, fuel prices, regulations)
👉 Earlier: logistics was support
👉 Now: logistics is strategy
🔥 But here’s the opportunity
While some exports are slowing…
* India is becoming a major global supplier
* Companies are shifting supply chains towards India
* New trade routes & markets are opening
👉 Meaning:
If managed well, this is a growth phase — not a slowdown
💡 Simple takeaway:
The game has changed.
It’s no longer about:
❌ Cheapest vendor
❌ Fastest shipment
It’s about:
✔ Smart planning
✔ Strong coordination
✔ End-to-end control
🚀 Final thought
India isn’t falling behind.
It’s repositioning itself in global trade.
And in this new phase…
logistics will decide who wins.
If you’re into export-import or planning to enter global trade,
now is the time to understand logistics - not ignore it.

Why India always miss the Bus of Industrial Growth ?
We don’t lack talent.
We don’t lack ambition.
Then why do we keep arriving late to every big industrial shift?
Let’s look at a pattern.
When the world started moving from agriculture to manufacturing, countries like China acted fast. They built ecosystems, scaled production, and became the factory of the world.
India understood the shift… but too late.
Then came Electric Vehicles (EV).
Again, countries moved quickly - building infrastructure, investing in R&D, and creating strong service networks.
In India, we saw many EV startups. Good intent, strong ideas.
But poor service, weak charging infrastructure, and unclear long-term vision slowed everything down.
Even today, many people are not confident about buying EVs.
And now - AI.
While the US and China are building, owning, and leading AI…
India is mostly consuming it.
We are becoming users, not creators.
This is not a capability problem.
This is a timing and execution problem.
We wait.
We observe.
We react late.
And by the time we act - the leaders are already far ahead.
The real question is:
Do we want to lead the next wave… or keep catching up?
Because the next bus - whether it’s deep tech, logistics innovation, or climate tech -
will not wait.

@maheshperi@careers360 This is NOT the school fee.
This is just the book fees for my 8th-class kid.
I completed my entire Engineering graduation -including all books -for less than this amount.
Education costs have officially gone insane.
what is Education Ministry doing ?
This is NOT the school fee.
This is just the book fees for my 8th-class kid.

Irresponsible content like this creates unnecessary panic. This is just one example - there are many more chasing views and sensationalism. Such narratives can trigger fear-driven behavior like panic buying.

Shipping costs didn’t just increase… they exploded.
This is my 7th post on Logistics & Geopolitics Series.
After the recent US–Israel–Iran tension and Strait of Hormuz disruption, something big happened in global logistics 👇
Freight rates jumped.
But that’s only half the story.
Shipping lines added:
• War risk surcharge
• Emergency surcharge
• Fuel increase
• Even stopped giving rates in some cases
👉 In many routes, cost per container increased by $3,000 to $8,000
And in extreme cases?
Almost 2x to 5x total logistics cost.
⸻
1. Macro Shock: What Actually Happened to Shipping
•Strait of Hormuz handles ~20% of global oil + major LNG flows
•Traffic collapsed almost to zero initially, with ships anchoring outside
•Major liners (Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd) suspended or rerouted services
⸻
📈 2. Freight Rate Explosion (Actual Numbers)
🔴 Tanker / Energy Shipping
•VLCC (Middle East → Asia):
•$400K+/day (all-time high)
•LNG shipping:
•+40–45% spike within days
•General crude routes:
•Freight nearly tripled since Feb
🔴 Charter Market
•Time charter:
•$35K → $100K/day (~3x)
•Voyage charter:
•$35K → $52K/day
⸻
🔴 Container Shipping (Liner Market)
•UK → Dubai:
•$1,500 → $6,000 per container (~4x)
•Gulf region lanes:
•Up to 4x increase overall
•Some carriers:
•Stopped quoting rates entirely (extreme uncertainty)
⸻
⚠️ 3. Hidden Cost Layers (Most Important for You)
🛡️ War Risk Insurance
•Jump:
•0.25% → 1.5% of vessel value (6x increase)
👉 For a $50M vessel:
•Earlier: ~$125K
•Now: ~$750K per voyage
⸻
⛽ Fuel & Route Costs
•Rerouting (Africa / alternate ports):
•+10–20 days transit time
•Higher bunker consumption
•Bunkering hubs (like Fujairah):
•Supply disrupted → fuel prices rising
⸻
🧾 Additional Surcharges Introduced
Shipping lines & operators added:
•War Risk Surcharge (WRS)
•Emergency Risk Surcharge (ERS)
•Congestion surcharge (due to port diversions)
•Fuel adjustment factor (BAF spike)
👉 Combined impact:
Total logistics cost inflation = 2x to 5x depending on route
------
But here’s what most people don’t understand 👇
This is not just a crisis.
This is a pricing strategy shift.
Shipping companies:
• Reduced capacity
• Controlled bookings
• Shifted risk to customers
And turned uncertainty into profit.
⸻
📦 What does this mean for businesses?
• Higher landed cost
• Delayed shipments
• Pressure on margins
⸻
💡 The real game now is not shipping faster.
It’s shipping smarter.
Route planning, cost control, and risk management
are now more important than ever.
⸻
If you are in import-export,
this is not the time to react…
this is the time to rethink your logistics strategy.
⸻

Has Iran actually placed physical barriers in the Strait of Hormuz to block it? What does it really mean when we hear that Iran has ‘blocked’ the Strait of Hormuz?
In the past few days, many news reports have talked about tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and how some ships managed to pass through risky areas by turning off their tracking systems.
This is my 3rd Post on #WarAndLogistics.
Today we will understand What does it mean when a country says it can “block” the route?
And how are ships actually tracked in the ocean?
🔹 Why the Strait of Hormuz Matters?
Around 20% of the world’s oil trade passes through this route.
That means 1 out of every 5 barrels of oil traded globally travels through the Strait of Hormuz.
🔹 What Does “Blocking the Strait” Actually Mean?
When people hear that a country may block the Strait of Hormuz, many imagine something like a gate in the sea.
But oceans do not work like highways.
There is no physical gate that can close the route.
A simple way to understand this is with a small example.
Imagine during Holi, some people stand outside their homes with large water guns. Anyone passing that road may get colors thrown on them.
Is the road closed?
No.
But people may avoid the road because it has become risky.
The same logic applies in strategic sea routes.
A country may deploy:
• Naval ships
• Patrol boats
• Missile systems
• Drones
This creates a situation where the route is technically open but practically risky for ships to pass.
🔹 How Ships Are Tracked at Sea
Ships use a system called AIS – Automatic Identification System.
This works like a GPS-based transponder for ships.
It continuously sends information such as:
• Ship name
• Location
• Speed
• Direction
• Destination
These signals can be received by:
• Other ships nearby
• Coastal monitoring stations
• Satellites
That’s why platforms like MarineTraffic can show ships moving across the world in real time.
🔹 Can Ships Turn Off Their Tracking System?
Technically, yes.
Ships can switch off AIS. When this happens, the vessel disappears from public tracking systems.
This is sometimes called “Going Dark.”
Ships may do this in situations such as:
• Conflict zones
• Piracy-prone areas
• Sensitive geopolitical situations
🔹 A Key Lesson for Logistics Professionals
Events around strategic maritime routes remind us that global logistics is not just about:
• Containers
• Ports
• Freight rates
It is also closely connected with:
• Geopolitics
• Maritime law
• Naval power
• Energy supply chains
A narrow sea route like the Strait of Hormuz can influence the global economy, oil prices, and supply chains worldwide.
Understanding these dynamics helps logistics professionals see the bigger picture of global trade.
