Bev Craig grew up on a "traditional loyalist estate" in Belfast. One might expect such roots to breed fiscal caution. Instead, she imported the worst excesses of American institutional failure: the DEI CV padding, the pronoun prestige, the relentless substitution of identity for competence.

She is not merely incompetent. She is fashionably incompetent. The full package. The non-binary they/them mayor for a non-binary they/them bankruptcy.

Consider the timeline. Craig takes leadership of Manchester City Council in 2021. Within four years, she has driven it to the brink of a Section 114 notice. A £46 million deficit. A projected £96 million black hole by 2026. Council tax hiked 4.99% annually while she admits, publicly, that she cannot make ends meet.

This is not leadership. This is managed decline with a diversity officer's polish.

And now? Having proven she cannot run a city council, she demands promotion to run the entire metropolitan region. Her solution to insolvency: promise "free" bus travel. Not free, of course. Funded by the same taxpayers she is already squeezing to pay for her fiscal incompetence.

The Greens called her "a symbol of the things people don't like about the Labour party." They were too kind. She is a warning label. The Americans tried this model: the credentialled mediocrity, the identity-as-qualification, the endless celebration of representation while the bridges crumble and the budgets detonate. Look at their cities. Look at their debt.

Craig did not learn from their failure. She studied it for tips.

She is not running for mayor. She is running a proof of concept: that you can fail upward indefinitely so long as you tick the right boxes and use the right pronouns. Manchester deserves better than a case study in why DEI promotions destroy institutions.

The buses will not be free. But the lesson will be: competence is not a gender identity. It is either present, or it is not. In Craig's Manchester, it is conspicuously absent.

VERDICT: The progressive statist. Economically socialist: promises "free" services via taxation, treats your money as infinite. Socially progressive: they/them, DEI, identity-as-qualification. Fiscally delusional: £46 million deficit, begs bailouts while promising new spending, treats bankruptcy as a funding problem not a competence problem. The champagne socialist with pronouns. Can thread inclusivity narratives. Cannot thread a spreadsheet.

Prisoners convicted of manslaughter, rape, and GBH will from September be released after serving just 50% of their sentence rather than the current 66%.
Labour had always promised that those with serious offences wouldn’t be released early.
