@BenBraddock10@DJIGlobal@BBCSpringwatch No, they are filter feeders, filtering plankton out of the water. In the video you can see the plankton as coloured dots. Amazing that one of our biggest animals eats the smallest! As it swims by you can see the gills in its side where the filtered water is expelled.
@BenBraddock10@DJIGlobal@BBCSpringwatch No, on a boat, with a camera on a pole held over the side. The shark wasn’t quite as close as it appears as the camera was on a 2x zoom!
@BenBraddock10@VisitScotland I’m not sure what sets them apart, the big skies where we have uninterrupted views of the different layers helps & you can often see distinct systems between high & low clouds, but I think the high latitude effect of the sun really helps the colours & it to persist longer 🤷🏻♀️
@UllapoolQueen @Jura_Harris@BBCSpringwatch @Dolphinchaz @HughHarrop@JoshsWildlife@SeaWatchersUK Definitely, hydrophones are incredible for revealing so much sound - but also for when they go silent - that can be revealing too! Wonder if someone like HWDT could loan one, or one of the academic studies? Ignore Carl - I’ve ‘spoken’ to them for years and I’m still sane….🤣
@UllapoolQueen @Jura_Harris@BBCSpringwatch @Dolphinchaz @HughHarrop@JoshsWildlife@SeaWatchersUK It’s amazing isn’t it, and you can pickup sound sometimes too - a privileged view into their world. I’ve never forgotten waking to the sound of clicks & whistles through a boat hull!😀 I’ve not done much underwater this year as still loads to process from last year!!
Juvenile Little Gull seen from the Ullapool to Stornaway Ferry Friday (11:23, 30/8/24) it was flying past a group of Kittiwakes which highlighted just how tiny it is!! @BirdGuides#Migration@Natures_Voice
