That's why it stunned so many people in the audience when she made a political speech critical of Donald Trump during her acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes in 2017.

Despite winning 3 Oscar awards for acting and racking up a record 21 Academy Award nominations, Trump would later take a shot at her on Twitter, criticizing her for being "over-rated."

But her words resonated with millions and, in light of his many documented disrespectful remarks about wounded veterans, it is clear that Meryl Streep was correct in her assessment.
