@PastorDScott Dr. Scott - I’ve been to your church and respect your ministry. The reason nobody whined about race is because it wasn’t about race. If Bird and McHale had been opponents, they would have treated each other the same way that they treated all opponents. The WNBA is a joke!!
@CollegeBSBNews I'm 73. I've been around the game of baseball all of my life. Never has the game produced more idiots and punks. Watch the great Roberto Clemente homer in game 7 of the 71 World Series. 1971 WS Gm7: Clemente homers in critical game - YouTube
I've spent a lot of the past 25-30 years coaching baseball. This means that I've have seen a lot of live baseball up close from 6-year-olds to college players. I've coached in well over a thousand games during this time.
This summer, I am not coaching a baseball team. I spent the last week watching live baseball at the D3 National Championship at Classic Park in Eastlake. The quality of the baseball was really good.
But what really caught my eye was the way that these kids competed and treated their opponents. There was no F-bombing the other dugout after a strikeout or a home run. There was no turning a home run trot into a marathon dance around the bases. Yet, the passion for the game and for the competition was still on full display.
I thought - this attitude reflects the coaching. I see these D1 college coaches making excuses for some of the ridiculous stuff that takes place in the dugout and on the field. It's even spilled over into college girls' softball. People dropping F-bombs like they're candy.
That's my rant for the day. Denison finished their record-breaking season by coming out of the losers' bracket in their pool and then winning the best of 3 series with Endicott 2-1 with both games yesterday going extra innings. Yesterday's games put on full display why the game of baseball is the greatest game ever invented.
When Herb Score was asked how he could maintain his enthusiasm for the game after so many years in the announcers' booth, he said: "You never know what you're going to see when you come to the ballpark." That was certainly true yesterday.
Congratulations to my close friend, Dave Jevnikar, and his Denison Big Red. He actually left Chardon and saw all 8 Denison games that it took to win the whole thing.
@BaseballBros Pathetic. Zero bat speed. Popup that landed fair. However, it would be pathetic if it was a shot to right center. Where do kids get this stuff?
So, I’m throwing BP to my 10 year old grandson and in the cage next to me is a high school player that I know hitting off a machine and checking his exit velocity on the tv screen every pitch. I notice that he is either popping up or rolling over on every pitch. I grab him, put him in my cage, and make him hit ten pitches to the opposite field then tell him to just hit. And he’s hammering the ball without looking at a screen to tell whether he hammered the ball.
