❗️The Cruel Dog and Catmeat Industry..❗️
Globally, an estimated 20 million dogs and 6 million cats are still slaughtered annually for human consumption, primarily concentrated across Asia (China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India)..
The global movement to end the dog and cat meat trade is accelerating, driven by historic legislative bans and widespread community action.
Organizations are actively dismantling the industry by implementing bans, rescuing animals, and helping farmers transition to humane livelihoods.
Because commercial breeding is expensive, the majority of the trade relies on capturing stray animals or stealing family pets directly from backyards using poison baits, tasers, and snares.
Animals are crammed tightly into small wire cages, loaded onto trucks, and driven for days without food, water, or rest.
Many die of suffocation, dehydration, or heatstroke before arrival.
The unregulated movement of unvaccinated animals across borders severely disrupts regional health strategies.
Organizations like Four Paws link the trade directly to the spread of rabies and other zoonotic diseases.

One of the half term projects was to lift this small raised bed and re-plant. The steps are still to finish, but mostly done. Always good to have a new bed to plant. #fairviewyearround
SOCIOPATH OF THE DAY! 😡 😡

Dozens of painted lady butterflies in the garden today, more than I can recall ever seeing, many spiralling in courtship dances. Amazing to think that some may have migrated from North Africa. #fairviewyearround
Some of the first cacti to flower here, these three Rebutia species are fairly hardy, small, free-flowering, safe to handle and offset freely, what’s not to like? R. pymaea MN132, R. fabrisii var. aureiflora and R. perplexa. #fairviewyearround
The Cedric Morris irises raised at Benton End are starting to flower, and they are among my favourites. ‘Benton Olive’, ‘Benton Daphne’, ‘Strathmore’ and ‘Benton Arundel’. #fairviewyearround
