You can not skip developmental steps in this sport by being a freak athlete, and expect to be successful. I’m not saying the USMNT is littered with freak athletes, but not having tons of freak athletes isn’t the issue. We have a multitude of players who grew up here and had a large amount of development here, in a broken system. You can clearly see the results. We don’t have an athlete problem, we have a development problem

People’s misunderstanding or ignorance of the rules of a sport does not constitute a fundamental flaw in the sport. What is really shows is a lack of humility and a level of arrogance to not even try to understand why these rules exist in the first place
