I’m glad to be a part of a department that values student experiences and input and takes our concerns seriously, and part of a cohort who support each other and share the work required to make things different instead of politely perpetuating bigotry.
Last week our department hosted a well known scientist who made a series of offensive, inappropriate statements in the required post-seminar student discussion. Today, a group of us met to discuss what response we wanted to make, what support we want from our faculty and chair...
Haven’t seen this on my twitter feed in a while, so just wanted to encourage scientists to try and use “community science” instead of “citizen science” as a more inclusive term for public participation in studies! #EntSoc21#communityscience 🔬👩🏻🔬

I am adopting and implementing this interpretation of business days right now. 48 hours will now mean I can take 6 days to respond. I love this. (I know you’re saying the opposite, but I’m running with it.)
17 years underground, that's a long time! So, what are cicadas up to? Eating, says #GradStudent@SoSubtlyObvious, “[They] just don't move around a lot, but they are alive and eating, and [they] can move around to find just the right spot on the tree root." https://t.co/Pdw2N8P04s
@dr_firefly@SysEB_Entsoc@EntsocAmerica@EntCollNet @ColeopSoc I want one of those little jewelry boxes with a tiny rotating ballerina inside and replace the ballerina with this little beetle carousel.
@PrettiestFrog I don’t know what motivated me to bake a cake in my tiny toaster oven on this rainy afternoon, but please tell your neighbor that I read this while it baked. Cheers to cakes and compassion.
