The official attendance was 173,850, still the largest recorded crowd for a FIFA World Cup match.

The figure refers to combined participation across those matches.
It does not mean that 22 million different individuals attended a single gathering.
The public celebrations became known as the “Red Syndrome.”
South Korea reached the semi-finals, becoming the first Asian nation to reach the last four of the men’s World Cup.

One of football’s greatest stars travelled to a local community event simply to help raise money.
