@TrekkingPaul@SocialHiking Sorry to hear about the closure. We probably don't tick all your boxes but we may be able to help with route sharing - https://t.co/37S582A9tW. We have a personal challenge tracker, free OSM maps and Ordnance Survey maps with premium membership. Like @socialhiking we're UK based.
@plotaroute@TrekkingPaul So I would love to spread the word about your service but I can find no pricing info (or indeed any of the required legal info on ownership / registered details etc.) on your site. Can you point me in the right direction?
At some point I was oddly nominated as outdoor personality of the year in @TGOMagazine awards. Clearly ridiculous (I was up against the legend that is @townsendoutdoor) but I enjoyed my moment in the lime light. Thanks to @CumbrianBlondie who accompanied me to the awards night.
Already missing looking at @SocialHiking and seeing the progress of people on #TGOC and other walks. There is no suitable alternative unfortunately unless anyone has any suggestions 🤔 What apps are folk now using to track their walks?
Bound to completely fail to name check everyone who was part of this journey (sorry), but at the start it was especially Phil T (twitter handle has changed) & @Tramplite (encouragement to open out to other people) @tookiebunten (logo) @stevenhorner (peak bagging) & @ukjeeper
Yesterday was hard - but that was just redirecting all traffic to the closure page. Today it is clicking this button... Sure - there are backups (that will eventually get deleted as they expire) but this feels very final.
One of the most popular and unique features of SH (why did no one else implement it) was auto peak bagging - an idea I stole (with consent) from @stevenhorner . Genius idea. His original blog post is gone so here is the SH one - https://t.co/fuAqK9yjdj
Since 2015 - despite so many schemes that @DrPollyPeacock and I came up with. Ultimately there wa never enough time and will. The site has such a dedicated group of users but it was too problematic to encourage new users and was too much work to fix.
