Eradicating caste is the dharma at the moment. If we have to sacrifice merit and efficiency to uphold Dharma, be it. Arjun killed his own family to uphold Dharma, this is the least we can do.

I don't care about meritocracy at all at the moment. I do care a lot about social equality. We collectively need to do whatever to eradicate caste asap: abolish reaervations, increase reservations, wealth transfer, whatever it takes. The central issue has to be annihilation of caste.

Reservation do seem to work, although slowly, in bringing equality. I have seen in my village, how a single dalit IAS officer gives confidence to dalit communities. I'd welcome other strategies if they are more effective.

If abolishing reservations means that caste will be eliminated, I'd happily support it. Remove reservations, and inpose death penalty on anyone practising caste in any form.

One misconception people have is that, abolishing caste and abolishing reservations are equivalent. Let me dumb it down. Abolishing caste would mean the whole country would compete for exams like JEE and NEET, from roughly similar starting points. So, as a result the cutoff would increase much more from what they are now, just due to sheer number.

@viduran90 @talk2anuradha This is not that difficult to comprehend. Similar to what was done during chairman Mao in China, land and other means assets needs to be redistributed. That is the only way to eradicate caste and income inequality.

Another alternative to reservation: Lets do a redistribution of real state wealth across castes in proportion to the population, and banning of surnames and ban of all caste related rituals. With these, there will be no need for reservations.
