Students in Geological Sciences visited an industrial complex close to Siena where CO2 is exploited at >300 m depth. Some production wells were visited and a short tour inside the industrial site was taken. Some natural CO2 manifestations were also visited nearby.

Cerro Pabellón (Chile) is the first and only geothermal power plant in South America, producing around 340 GWh/y thanks to a water-dominated geothermal reservoir (>200 °C). The plant satisfies the needs of over 165 thousand families and avoid the emission of 166,000 CO2ton/y.

The former Cu mines of Valle Imperina in the Belluno Dolomites, are nowadays a destination for excursions for students and researchers from the
University of Bologna.
The sampling of waters and sediments is crucial to understand the lasting impacts of these mines.

The IRGIE project (Geothermal Resources Inventory of the Aeolian Islands) of @INGVvulcani, in collaboration with @regionesicilia, explores the geothermal resources of the seven #Aeolian islands.

Every month some of our members, in collaboration with INGV, carry out the sampling of fumaroles from Bocca Grande and Bocca Nuova in the Solfatara crater to study the temporal evolution of the system and to improve the knowledge of deep processes governing its degassing.

Today (9/11/22) is one year since a 5.5 Mw earthquake struck the Marche coastal area. The research team composed of the @uniurbit, @Dstunifi, @CNRsocial_-IGG of Florence, and INGV-Rome is carrying out a water monitoring to find out possible variations related to the earthquake.

A coring campaign at the #Venice Lagoon (Torcello and Lio Piccolo) has just been concluded. The extracted cores are to reconstruct the #Holocene lagoon paleo-depositional ad paleo-environmental evolution by high-resolution sedimentological, geochemical and isotopic analyses.

SoGeI members Orlando Vaselli and Barbara Nisi were at Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni (#Santorini, Greece) to carried out the annual sampling of fumaroles and soil #CO2 flux measurements in collaboration with the Greek colleagues of IGME.

SoGeI members Maurizio Ambrosino, Domenico Cicchella and Stefano Albanese measured #CO2 emissions related to tectonic structures and karst aquifers at #Solopaca (Benevento, Italy). About 380 kgCO2/km2 per day was estimated.
