Thomas was always for kids but, in S1-7, the writing treated kids as intelligent. George Carlin himself said as much.

Thomas got dumbed down by S8. The HiT Writers' Bible gives us insight into how they changed Thomas from a "kids of all ages" show to a "preschool" show.
