A masked man was caught on camera smashing a statue of the Virgin Mary outside a New York City church with a hammer.

Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime and the vandal is still on the run.

Surveillance video shows the suspect climbing over a fence, then repeatedly striking the statue before fleeing the scene.

This isn't an isolated incident — St. Rita Roman Catholic Church says it's the 4th reported vandalism targeting the parish since 2024.
