Hello, I am back on X because I published a book and it has been released today!
I’m so excited to share this online. If you read it, please tell me what you think!

my friends, it is time:
in conjunction with @avemariapress and a new book they released, i spent the last few months illustrating the entire structure of the summa theologica, by thomas aquinas.

can i show and tell you, in this thread:
It’s great that people are doing long threads demonstrating with data that pitbulls are more dangerous than other breeds, but on some level it strikes me as kind of absurd. Have you ever been around one of these dogs? Have you ever been to somebody’s house who has two or three of them and they come storming through the room and push by your leg on the way to the back door?
And then you’re going to argue that Chihuahuas are more aggressive?
It is embarrassing to have to argue about this. The smarter and better educated you are, the more you’re supposed to believe that things aren’t as they seem, that it’s dumb and lazy to make obvious inferences.
It’s really messing with people’s brains and turning them into weirdos who can’t reason about the world.
A while back I took my 4-year-old to the ER because she had choked on a cashew. It was the worst choking I had ever seen without total airway blockage.
I had been on the edge of intervening, but followed my first aid training and watched and waited. She ultimately seemed to "clear" the cashew, but I was unsettled.
We had a big group of friends over that night and it was noisy. She was active and happy. But after everyone left, when it was quiet, I could hear her wheezing. She said she could feel the cashew inside of her.
I took her in to the hospital and she was seen. We were told to wait and that it would be long. After a while I asked about progress and was told the usual. There was no sense of urgency.
Eventually I took her home to sleep because she was exhausted, she wasn't being seen, she couldn't sleep upright in a chair, and there was no sign she would be seen.
This is the nature of the state-run Canadian medical system. You go into the ER, you wait, you have no clue if and when you'll be seen. If you complain or try and get any information, then surly nurses lecture you and point at the "We don't tolerate abuse," signs that are ubiquitous in government buildings in Canada.
At home I watched her all night because I was so worried.
We returned to the hospital in the morning. By this point the wheezing was far worse. This time the nurse who triaged her recognised the urgency of the matter and went immediately to get a doctor.
The cashew had broken up into pieces and she had chemical pneumonitus. Chemical pneumonitus can cause respiratory failure and death. She needed an emergency procedure to remove the semi-digested pieces of cashew which were difficult to remove because they were soft. She ended up in the pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The doctor who did the procedure was irate about the initial failure at triage which never should have happened. But these stories are regular and predictable stories of Canadian Healthcare. I had a friend who was sent home from the hospital with VITT. He's dead now.
The press only seems to show interest when immigrants have parallel experiences that the people who built Canada have been experiencing in the system for literally decades. One of the many reasons our system is collapsing is the influx of sickly, elderly foreigners and medical tourists who I am told sometimes will take a taxi straight from the airport to the hospital.
The best strategies to surviving Canadian "health" care are to be born with good genes, to opt for private whenever possible, to use every connection you have when a problem arises, to take impeccable care of your body, and to never have accidents. Otherwise you're simply playing Russian roulette, along with everyone else who is at the hospital. All Canadians know this, they also know the system is collapsing, but when pressed, still fall back on, "At least it's not American healthcare," when pressed.
Ultimately, the Canadians who vote Liberal and NDP get the healthcare they deserve and don't have the right to complain. The rest of us are merely casualties of their decision-making, like every other systemic failure that they have created along with the managerial regime they edify.
Christmas keeps starting earlier and then ending immediately.
Christmas lasts TWELVE DAYS. December 25–January 5. But people start celebrating in November and are throwing out their trees before the New Year.
Day 2 of Christmastide is tomorrow, keep the festivities going!
99% of the time, if I can’t find a price on a website within five minutes I just go to the next company. If I call because I have to and you pull this, I’m calling someone else lol
I understand that this is the recommended way of handling the “just tell me the price” question but
I get so pissed when sales reps treat me like this. Am I alone here?
I wish more men would realise that women who work in retail are paid to provide polite customer service. Smiling at you and asking how your day is going or whether you’ve completed your Christmas shopping yet does not mean we want to date you, or have anything to do with you outside work. Twice this year I have asked a customer to stay back after close to make sure I wasn’t approached or followed by male customers. I imagine it’s much worse for younger/prettier women. 😭
I have been trying to figure out a way to articulate this that doesn’t come across as horrible bc I don’t want it to come off that way-
but why is it ok for women to say “your husband will leave you and you will be destitute” to sahms bc they have had that happen to them or people they care about, but I would never in a million years say “your child is going to be harmed in daycare” even though I was? I would literally never say that in an actual conversation
@CameronCorduroy I borrowed some flour last June because I ran out while I was making my kid a birthday cake. Idk how common it is but I’ve definitely done it a few times lol
“Why are folks getting dumber?” Because they don’t read. “Why aren’t men as romantic & poetic as they used to be?” Because they don’t read. “Why are people so vulnerable to propaganda?” “Why is everyone a conspiracy theorist?” Because they don’t read. Because they don’t read.
@Azariel91 Nah, I had roommates for most of my twenties, and my husband and I have been together since we were teenagers. I’m 41 now. It depends on where you live and what you’re doing. Young people generally struggle on their own at the beginning. Totally normal.
@karmickittycat@megha_lilly Those are things your mom should teach you. It’s hard to learn that on your own. I think my mother was just upset because she didn’t want me to grow up but still.
@allie__voss My almost three year old son hit another kid at the playground the other day (my kid is huge) and I made him leave after making him apologize. The other parents acted like I was abusing him. Like no, please discipline your kids.
