By the grace of Allah, I’d be completing recitation of Holy Quran in traveeh prayers tonight at Al-Huda Mosque, F-7 Markaz, Islamabad. This is around 48th year of my recitation in traveeh prayers since my parents Dr. Qaiser Siraj (late) and Dr. Siraj ul Haq Mahmud transformed an ordinary 8 years old kid into Hafiz e Quran. In my university days, my mother, the prime motivator behind her two sons becoming Hafiz-e-Quran, wanted me to learn Quran translation too. But I ignored. She even offered to buy me a motorbike which was like a car in those days but I wasn’t motivated. Years passed and I kept reciting Quran in traveeeh prayers without understanding meaning.
One day, I attentively listened to Qari Sudais’ traveeh recitation in Kaaba and was intrigued to feel intense emotions in his voice. I could sense that since he understood what he was speaking, his sentiments were fully expressed in his recitation. That was a turning point for me to start learning meanings of Quran. I bought tafseer books and started learning ayah by ayah. After few years, my experience with Quran recitation started changing completely. I could make an awesome connection with the Creator and the Prophets. I could immerse in their teachings, spiritually as well as logically. I could feel Divine energy, the emotions and sentiments expressed therein transcending time and cultural differences. Since then, every time I read Quran, I ponder on what was said and find new connections relating to our present-day challenges.
Quran connection is simple – listen, read, understand, contemplate, ponder, think, act, make a habit, whatever you can. But keep doing it daily, even 5 minutes. It’d surely be a life changing experience.
“We have certainly made Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will act?”Quran 54:32
May Allah have mercy on all of us, our parents, our teachers and bless us in this life and life hereafter. Ameen.
