On this day—October 25, 1934
Harvard’s “Jewish problem” is nothing new.
This day, the university held a mock trial of Adolf Hitler. All testimony about Nazi persecution of Jews was ruled irrelevant, and a panel of Harvard professors acquitted him on two of four charges.
The very same Harvard warmly welcomed Hitler’s foreign press chief and personal associate, Ernst “Putzi” Hanfstaengl, only months earlier. The Harvard Crimson had argued he deserved “the marks of honor appropriate to his high position in the government of a friendly country.”
Harvard maintained ties with Nazified German universities, hosted Nazi officials and naval officers, and limited Jewish enrollment. Events in 2023 and 2024 proved the legacy endured, as Harvard became a national symbol of campus antisemitism after October 7.

A heartfelt musical tribute to performative activism, where the slogans are loud, the Jew-hate is palpable, knowledge is optional, and the results are nonexistent.

Silent footage from @AP in 1956 just after Israeli forces drove Egypt out. Captions says: "Refugee camps near GAZA, where the Egyptian kept the Palestinian refugees in primitive dwellings, not permitting them to go to Egypt or mingle with their countryfolk. Fed and clothed thanks to the International Organization for the refugees, the Egyptians used these people as political hostages. While Cairo affirmed that Gaza territory sheltered 300.000 Arab refugees, right after occupation they were numbered at 200.000. In front of their huts decorated with white flags, they warmly receive the Israeli soldiers, saying that the Egyptians were very haughty towards and did not treat them well."
This is your rank-and-file activist. They don't need to understand the underlying theory, much less its esoteric origins. They absorb the movement's slogans, language, moral outlook, and group identity. Shared grievances bind them together; affirmation rewards commitment, and dissent risks shame or exclusion. Their activism becomes both a moral cause and a source of belonging.
They learn to see the existing order through the lens of oppression and liberation. The institutions, traditions, and inherited hierarchies of Western civilization come to be fundamentally illegitimate and obstacles to human progress. Defending them becomes morally suspect; challenging them becomes virtuous.
Unlike some of the professors teaching them, who imagine themselves guiding the new order, rank-and-file activists need not expect power or privilege. They believe their struggle will bring justice and liberation. The movement gives them belonging, purpose, moral standing, and the conviction that they're on the right side of history.
@CitizenWald Interestingly, I recently read Zweig's "The World of Yesterday," and he laments that he never felt a touch of antisemitism growing up and coming of age in Vienna before WW1, even during the Lueger era.
Demoralization is the con that makes people willingly participate in the sublation of their own civilization.
1. Recast Western civilization as a structure of oppression.
2. Declare its achievements really as the universal inheritance of humanity.
3. Convince Westerners that their particular claim to that civilizational inheritance is unjust.
4. Promise moral redemption through this civilizational surrender.
5. Fill the institutions with the demoralized so the institutions reproduce this worldview as much as possible.
Does the left understand how ridiculous it looks to claim anti-Sayed Democrats are more loyal to Israel than America, while simultaneously claiming that any inquiry into El-Sayed’s very real links to the Muslim Brotherhood is an unwarranted attack on his patriotism?
