Dr. Brian Hooker secretly recorded a senior CDC scientist, Dr. William Thompson, who made a shocking admission.

They have no reading comprehension.
They have no critical thinking skills. They can't read an article or a paragraph and pull out critical information in order to help answer a question.

And I know a lot of you are thinking like, "Well, you're the teacher. That's your job is to teach them how to do those things." And it's like, well, actually, I'm a high school history teacher. They are past the point of me teaching them how to read higher than an elementary school reading level. My job isn't to teach them how to read. That was the teachers before them.

And I'm not blaming them either — it's a much bigger problem than me just not teaching them how to read. I had a student in high school who could not consistently spell their name correctly on the paper. Literally, I would get it, and it'd be spelled different every time and obviously not right every single time. And when I mentioned that I think that they should be in the special ed classroom rather than my high school world history classroom, I was told that I don't know about inclusivity”
