Ecco come 🧵
Fernando Mendoza Scouting Report
Grade: A+
Prospect Rating: Elite
Profile:
QB, Indiana, 6’5” 235 lbs
Pros:
-Has good arm strength, can put a lot of velocity on the ball and drive the ball into small windows.
-Consistent rotational sequencing, Mendoza transfers energy from the ground up to generate maximum power and accuracy on throws.
-Mobile quarterback, has very good agility at 6’5” and can make plays as a runner or throwing on the run.
-Pro-ready processor pre-snap and post-snap, breaks down the defense on every play.
-No injury concerns, missed only one game for his entire collegiate career and it was due to illness.
-Accurate and precise passer, 72.0% completion percentage in 2025.
-Throws a beautiful ball on slant routes.
-Not turnover prone, does not put the ball in harms way despite being heavily reliant on contested throws.
-Has all the intangibles: command of the huddle; calm under pressure; great work ethic; studies film; can adapt to different schemes; natural leadership and strong body language; upstanding character.
-Great pocket discipline and improving at sensing pressure. Navigates the pocket well.
-Went undefeated and won the Heisman and National Championship at a historically non-football school. Also elevated an offense at California that was devoid of playmakers. Cal has not even had an offensive player drafted since 2017.
Cons:
-After breaking the defense down pre-snap, he frequently locks-on to his go-to read. He doesn’t manipulate the defense with his eyes or a head fake and this makes the throw more contested than it needs to be.
-When he’s fooled by a disguise and then forced to scan the entire field and go to his 3rd or 4th progression, he gets flat-footed and his accuracy dips.
-A strong bull-rush is his worst nightmare. When the interior of the pocket collapses and he’s under pressure, his throws lose velocity and he becomes turnover prone.
-While he’s elite at back-shoulder throws and completing intermediate passes on comeback routes, he’s very reliant on those plays. A strong press corner can interrupt the timing and force a coverage sack (easier said than done).
-Takes too many sacks in general. He’s improving and he often gets the ball out quickly, but he still trusts his protection too much.
-Played a lot of RPO in college. In the NFL, RPO is rising, but it’s still only used on 10-12% of snaps.
-Mendoza is an accurate passer deep, but his deep ball is a lofty ball with a lot of air: he just doesn’t have the arm strength to drive it with a lot of speed and velocity. He can make up for this with great mechanics, touch, and timing. But there have been only 4-5 prospects (Elway, Lawrence, Luck, Stafford, Mahomes) ever with elite deep ball accuracy (emphasis on accuracy) and high velocity (60 mph, 70+ yards, in the field of play).
Conclusion:
Mendoza’s high IQ play immediately puts him in the ballpark with quarterbacks like Bryce Young and Andrew Luck. He then has the physical size and athletic traits similar to Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning. And the closest modern comparison to Mendoza’s run at Indiana has to be Joe Burrow.
He doesn’t have the superstar flash and physical tools of prospects like Caleb Williams, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Jayden Daniels, Anthony Richardson, Cam Ward, and Trevor Lawrence, but he’s got every skill necessary to become an all-pro caliber quarterback. If Mendoza eventually becomes the best quarterback in the league, I will not be surprised. I see Fernando Mendoza as a future top-5 QB in the league.
Sources: The #Raiders are signing QB Kirk Cousins to a contract that pays him $10M for playing in Las Vegas in 2026 ($1.3M paid by LV, the rest by the #Falcons) and $10M next March in a fully guaranteed roster bonus with no offset.
There is a 2-year team option for $80M.
Il QB Kirk Cousins annuncia il suo accordo con i #Raiders. I Silver & Black erano alla ricerca di un veterano che potesse aiutare la prima scelta assoluta del Draft 2026 Fernando Mendoza a crescere
Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M.
The Falcons will pay Cousins $8.7 million this season, the Raiders another $1.3 million and Las Vegas also agreed to pay its new QB a fully-guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year.
And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed.
New Raiders QB Kirk Cousins will now make $20 million fully guaranteed for playing the 2026 season, per sources.
That’s double the $10M guarantee Cousins had left on his Falcons contract, and puts him in line to potentially be the Week 1 starter in Las Vegas.
Here’s how it breaks down:
🏈 Falcons pay $8.7M in 2026, with the Raiders paying the $1.3 minimum base salary.
🏈 Raiders pay Cousins a $10M fully guaranteed roster bonus on the third day of the league year next March that is not subject to offsets.
🏈 Raiders hold a two-year, $80M option for 2027-28, which is unlikely (though not impossible) to be picked up.
🏈 The deal also includes two void years in 2029-30 for cap purposes.
On paper, it’s a three-year, $81.3M deal (or five for $172M with the void years).
In reality, it’s one-year, $20 million for Kirk Cousins, who now will have played under fully guaranteed contracts for 11 consecutive seasons.
New #Raiders coach Klint Kubiak worked with Kirk Cousins with the #Vikings for three seasons and recently discussed not wanting to rush a young QB onto the field.
A day after Fernando Mendoza’s Pro Day, Cousins lands with Las Vegas.
