I am a mechanical engineer and I am happy India is building tall, but I don't need an adversary to explain why people are upset with glass towers, because Gurugram crosses 45°C every May and a full-glass facade keeps taking in that sun the whole afternoon.
The family on the 20th floor pays for it in AC bills every month, and the neighbour facing the west side gets the glare right in his living room.
Then there is the dust. Gurugram is a dusty city, and in this heat the dust keeps flying the whole day and settles on the glass, so the facade needs cleaning at regular intervals and not once a year. We have seen the M3M IFC tower being cleaned by drones. Keeping a glass facade crystal clear is a costly and cumbersome job, and in a residential tower that cost comes back to the residents through the maintenance bill.
Build tall, I am fully with that. Just ask the builder what glass he has used, whether it is double glazed with a low-e coating, which side the glass faces, and who pays for the facade cleaning and how often, before you sign anything.
If every complaint is a psyop, who is going to fix the design?
Any one who is privileged therefore owes it to the world to work on the most obnoxiously hard problems, not just build a life for themselves, but uplift people by building great companies and employing as many people as they can.
The privileged must risk it all, over and over again, until they are tortured to greatness.
This is my version of socialism, re- distribute risk. The rich have a moral imperative to embrace more risk.
There is constant hate for Individual MFDs.
Let's talk data:
If an MFD manages a massive ₹50 Cr AUM, their actual take-home after GST, income tax, and regulatory costs is roughly ₹12-14 L a year (thanks to regulators & Govt for complicated tax structure & ease of business). For context, a hardworking Uber driver makes about ₹10-12 L.
I guess barely 2-3% of MFDs ever reach that 50 Cr AUM milestone. It takes 15 to 20 yrs of relentless grinding to build that AUM.
Then, one fine morning, it’s just ripped away. A corporate RM from a giant bank like ICICI or a flashy notification from apps like Groww swoops in and steals two decades of an individual MFD's life work in a heartbeat.
The bitter truth is that the bulk of all industry commissions goes straight to banks, institutions, and digital platforms. Individual MFDs are just regular, middle-class people.
😭😭
Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) have now reached 31,000 cr. per month. Of course, everyone's bored of listening to us in the Mutual Fund Industry saying that it's good, but bear with me.
The main reason an SIP is useful is not because it "averages" out the entry price over time in a volatile up and down market. That is just something we as an industry decided is a good thing - but it's an outcome, not a goal.
The main reason is: most of us earn money monthly. End of story. You earn, you spend, you save, you invest. That cycle happens monthly, and therefore you SIP monthly.
But the secondary reason is also: if you don't invest it, you probably will spend it. This is why SIPs make sense - you invest first and spend later, usually. So you end up spending only what's left with you, and that "forced" investing of sorts helps you build wealth for later.
Many of us have the discipline to do an SIP manually every month - otherwise called "lumpsum" investing. This is also fine, and probably better because some months you will have way more money, and some you will be on kadki mode.
Disciplined investing initially works because you save the money, not because it grows. The growth happens in later years. So in the first few years, it's mostly your money, your savings that built your wealth. It's in later years that the incremental savings are very small compared to the corpus you have, so your portfolio grows more because of returns rather than because of what you're saving.
Save a little more every month or every year, and you'll build wealth faster. But building wealth isn't the goal, really, for you. We, as mutual funds, help you build wealth, but your story has three parts:
Part 1: You save and invest your money
Part 2: The money grows because of returns
Part 3: You spend the money
Don't forget part 3. Your wealth doesn't define you. Your life does. Make your life better. SIP is a way to help you, but you have to do Part 3 all by yourself. And that, bro, is the best part of it all.
Many small-time MFDs rely on commission income to earn a living. Recently, regulatory mischievousness forced AMCs to cut their commission by 20-30%, and on top of that, they have to survive predators like ICICI, Groww, and others.
A small MFD groomed a client for years and helped him build a sizeable corpus. His client holds an account with ICICI Bank, the branch got to know about his mutual fund corpus, and the RM and his team visited his house, worked on him, and got all the AUM moved under them.
The ICICI RM is happy he achieved his monthly quota, the client is happy because he has a dream sold by the ICICI RM. The loser is the poor individual MFD who spent years grooming a client & building his own business.
Later, the RM transfers to another branch, & the client's dream will be buried forever.

When taxation is the only thing govt cares for
Results are self explanatory
India vs global mkts for last 2 years
Looks like so called "Shock Absorbers" need a special shock treatment
Japan,Korea, Taiwan are up between 100-200% over the last 1 year
Nasdaq up 38%
Dow up 26%
DAX almost nearing life highs
All we do is:
Keep taxing middle class every year and burden them
Increasing taxation on equity markets and make sure FIis run out of India
Give freebies to the ones who don't want to work
Periodically, do farm loan waivers for the ones who never pay tax
On top of it, govt is doing OFS in such kind of mkt 🙏🙏
I’m incredibly intrigued by the rise of #CockroachJantaParty, which has already reached more than 15 million followers on @Instagram in just five days.
I understand the frustrations of the youth and see why they are resonating with it. This is precisely why the account being withheld on X is disastrous and deeply unwise - there should be an outlet for the youth to express their feelings and so, let CJP’s account function instead of shutting it down! Democracies need outlets for dissent, humour, satire and even frustration.
I am uncertain about the future of this movement but I hope the youngsters behind it find a way to bring this energy into mainstream politics or perhaps express it through their vote to be a voice of change and in doing so, become impossible to ignore. This is an opportunity that the Opposition must seize.

2003 - Satyendra Dubey, IIT Kanpur grad, wrote to PM Vajpayee exposing corruption in the Golden Quadrilateral project. Begged to keep his name secret. Shot dead on his 30th birthday.
2004 - Manjunath Shanmugam, IIM Lucknow grad, sealed a petrol pump selling adulterated fuel under PM Manmohan Singh’s govt. 6 bullets. Dead at 27.
2005 - Narendra Kumar, IPS officer, seized illegal mining trucks in MP under CM Shivraj Chouhan. Crushed under a tractor. Dead at 30. His IAS wife was pregnant.
After these deaths, Parliament passed the Whistleblower Protection Act in 2014.
It has NEVER been activated. 12 years. Not a single day.
PM Modi’s govt said it needs amendments. Then introduced amendments in 2015 that actually gutted the law, making it illegal to expose corruption if it touches the Official Secrets Act. That bill failed and lapsed. Govt said okay, original Act is fine then. Still didn’t activate it.
100+ RTI activists killed since 2014. No party is innocent.
Modi’s govt has sat on the protection law for a decade.
Tweaks in LTCG tax for a small class of investors may not be enough to turn around sentiment. Need a substantial to 100% cut in LTCG for ALL investors and back to 10% type tax for STCG.
This small thing will go far.
There are enough Indian entrepreneurs who can be funded by private equity (both Indian and foreign). However those PE funds will invest only if there is exit visibility after a few years. That can be handled easily by FIIs and DIIs and retail if equity markets are buoyant. It is all a big chain.
If equity markets are weak everything slows down and valuable years are wasted to reach govt's investments, GDP targets etc.
Dear Jio, Airtel,
It is a Duopoly, Unfortunately. BSNL is trying hard to get some good plans. But their slow service has led to a Duopoly in India. Most towers are with both of you now.
On behalf of all of us, I have two Suggestions:
- Most Indians have Wifi access. Senior Citizens use Wifi mostly. Please provide an affordable 1 GB per day plan with options to choose (28 days onwards). Also a yearly plan.
- Provide affordable Voice only plans for less than ₹100 every month. Anything above this is forcing people to take data, even if they don't need it.
There are many who use only voice and also less than 1 GB per day. Need inclusive plans. Let users decide.
Urging my audience to repost this (if you also feel this way) until @JioCare & @Airtel_Presence ACTUALLY Cares 👍
