🇵🇰 PAKISTAN'S attempt to keep IMRAN KHAN SUPPORTERS out of Islamabad is now clogging the COUNTRY'S BIGGEST PORT 1,400 kilometres away
For weeks, authorities have been seizing trucks and shipping containers to build barricades ahead of PTI's march on the capital.
Transporters say more than 2,000 vehicles were requisitioned in September alone.
Some were still carrying cargo.
Now truckers are simply refusing to drive north. One said
“Right now, going towards Punjab is like committing suicide”
The result is a growing pile-up of containers in Karachi and disruption to freight heading toward Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other northern cities.
And the economics get ugly quickly!!
Transporters say a seized container can accumulate 30,000 to 40,000 RUPEES in demurrage charges EVERY DAY, while the truck sits idle and deliveries go unfinished.
Some containers are filled with sand and welded together before being placed across roads into Islamabad.
So the effort to stop PTI supporters reaching the capital is beginning to produce a rather unusual second-order effect:
Pakistan's political blockade is turning into a logistics blockade.
