According to the Human Development Index, Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas, and its lack of the most basic human needs rivals anywhere on Earth.
Often communities have a source of water but the system is broken in some way. In Haiti, our partners conduct a lot of hand pump repair to fix these broken systems and provide water again! Maintenance is SO important! πͺ
For a community with no surface water, wells are dug to reach clean water. The water is then pumped to the surface with a hand, electric or solar powered pump!π We love that one community member wanted to paint their pump such a fun color after completing a playground project!
#whywater: There might be plenty of water in Latin America, but most of it is contaminated and unfit to drink. From 1990 to 2015, more than 220 million people gained access to clean water and sanitation! Imagine what that means for these communities!
Why are we dedicated to alleviating water poverty in Latin America? It's a basic human need, but is not easily accessible for everyone. Did you know that 36 million people do not have access to clean drinking water in Latin America? #waterforeveryone
#whywater: when children donβt have the opportunity to receive an education, they wonβt be able to find a good job. The chains of poverty will never fall off a community due to children taking time to fetch water.
Globally, women and girls spend an estimated 200 million hours hauling water every day. Have you ever thought about how far you walk for a glass of water?
Clean water and sanitation go hand in hand to help children grow. Disease causing pathogens are transferred to the food when it is washed in unclean water. Children then get sick from the food and are unable to absorb the nutrients in their food, causing malnourishement over time
Who are we? We are a non-profit organization that collaborates with organizations to develop and implement clean water projects. This include wells, water purification systems, hand pump repair, and conducting health education programs.
