When my mom died I found this Letter to the Editor among her possessions. She’s calling out John Klein, the Town Supervisor in Smithtown LI, for his racist housing policies. I think it’s from the 1970s. It inspires me to name names, and call out BS. Don’t live afraid.
This is a devastating interview.
Scott Pelley tells the NYT that Bari Weiss directly put a “thumb on the scale” for Trump over the killing of Renee Good.
Here’s his explanation of exactly what happened.

Mea culpa, mea culpa,
mea máxima culpa.
Earlier today, I quote tweeted someone who was endorsing Karen Bass for mayor and included information about a horrendous crime that impacted them.
My intent was to point out the insanity of supporting the people who've turned LA and CA into a dangerous cesspool.
I have deleted the post because it was thoughtless.
The world of politics ain't a sandbox. It's brutal and nasty and people call me nasty names on the daily—and that's okay because I signed up to fight for sanity and it's definitely a battle.
I would hope that people on the side of public safety, good governance and clean streets would realize that they don't need to call people names or cast aspersions on their careers or be nasty—I don't have "followers" that I can command to do as I wish, but I hope you know that if you're hurling gratuitous insults at people on the other team, you're not helping. Make your point, yes. And continue to call me out when I fail at that.
I have interacted publicly with @ZevYaroslavsky, @mikehtrujillo, @neeratanden, @sarasadhwani, @MaliaCohen and even @KarenBassLA (the latter at a lunch) and I would hope that they'd all agree I'm a fierce defender of conservatives, republicans and my team, but not nasty for no reason.
I once interviewed Misty Copeland while in my car (2020, 2021?). Had to roll up the windows because of noise and was dying (it was hot) but got it done and she was so lovely. It was worth it.
She can soar through the air, commands a stage in a single turn, and becomes a swan so effortlessly you forget she's not one.
But she's never danced around the issues.
Misty Copeland is stepping back into the spotlight.
Not just to dance, but to define her legacy.
She's the first Black woman principal dancer at American Ballet Theater.
And she knew being the first meant making room for others.

Funny you should ask. The two editors negotiating a new Guild contract on behalf of Times management are being, openly, contemptuous and dismissive to their colleagues who oppose AI.

As the first Latina character, Maria, on the popular children’s show @sesamestreet, Sonia Manzano has opened doors for the Latino community.
On this episode of SHE WAS FIRST on @PBS I enter with her into the South Bronx—a place @SoniaMManzano once longed to escape but now embraces for its cultural vibrancy and diversity.
Come with us as Sonia gives me a tour and a history lesson about her favorite borough.
