She asked for help.
"Why didn’t she help herself?"

She fought back.
"She was crazy."

She didn’t fight back.
"Why didn’t she fight for her life?"

She is dead. And somehow, it is still her fault.

Hana Lalango. Five men raped her, left her for dead.

Derartu Lemesa. Stabbed by the man beside her.

Mahlet Teklay. Kidnapped. Found dead.

Zewdu Haftu. Dragged across the ground by a man in a car, died from the wounds.

Meaza Kassa. Stabbed by her colleague. At work. Where she should have been safe.

Tsigereda Girmay. Killed because she refused a man’s love request.

Nuhamin Tilahun. Stabbed in broad daylight by a man who claimed he loved her.

Chaltu Abdi. Raped and murdered in the home where she worked as a housemaid.

Selome Gulilat. Shot by a federal police officer. His reason? “Who are you not to talk to me?”

Firehiwot Tadesse. Wanted a divorce. Got a bullet instead.

Adanwit Yheyis. Raped by her stepfather. When her mother reported him, he stabbed her to death.

Haymanot Bedada. Killed in a hospital laboratory. A place meant to save lives.

Seble Nigusie. Acid poured over her. Stabbed. Killed by the man who once held her close.

Fatuma Ugas. Raped by a group of men. Hanged to death.

Tigist Likelew. Stabbed in front of a judge. In a courtroom. After her divorce was finalized.
