What’s particularly ridiculous about the flagrant American lie that President Maduro is some sort of drugs kingpin is that the US openly ran Afghanistan as a heroin colony for 20 years. The country under US puppet rule supplied 90% of the world’s heroin and the US-backed rulers all took their cut. After the Taliban ejected the occupiers, poppy production stopped virtually overnight.

As always imperial propaganda is pure projection.

MEDIA DOWNPLAYS ISRAELI FANS’ BEHAVIOUR

The mainstream media’s reporting on the recent attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam has been criticised not only for failing to provide the full context but also for its condemnation of a pogrom that never happened. While picking up American and European leaders’ allegation of anti-Semitism, outlets downplayed the behaviour of Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters in the lead-up to, and during, the match.

For example, Sky News retracted and re-edited a report posted on the network’s social-media pages that had depicted Israeli fans as instigators - alleging they’d shouted racist chants. This report had also noted that “Israeli far-right ultras are notorious for their racism and physical violence.” Meanwhile, Reuters used double standards when describing the abuse shouted by Israelis and Arabs - using ‘slurs’ in the one case, and simply ‘slogans’ in the other.

There are also accusations of ‘manufactured anti-Semitism’ - spread to justify alleged initial violence by Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters. Some would argue that the flawed media coverage has only reinforced a supposed Israeli ‘monopoly’ on victimhood - one that some Israelis allegedly exploit to license bad behaviour in the streets of Amsterdam as well as in Gaza. (In July, British medical journal The Lancet reported Gaza's death toll could be over 186,000 and climbing, given Israel has not relented since the October 7 escalation of violence in the ongoing 76-year-old occupation.)

Last month, a commander of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary defected to the Sudanese Armed Forces. In retaliation, the UAE-backed RSF laid siege to his home town in eastern Gezira State - targeting civilians. There are now reports that 13 people have since been shot dead. Locals say the RSF is also poisoning scarce food supplies, resulting in over 50 deaths so far.

Ethnic violence has been a grim feature of the vicious cycles of wars in Sudan since its independence in 1956, particularly in places such as Darfur, the Nuba Mountains and South Sudan (before its cessation). Both the SAF and the RSF are accused of atrocities, although genocidal violence in the current war is significantly associated with the UAE-backed RSF.

The latest violence comes on the back of a spate of alleged RSF atrocities near the capital, Khartoum. Commenting on these, Sudan's UN Humanitarian Coordinator Clementine Nkweta-Salami said she was 'shocked and deeply appalled that human rights violations of the kind witnessed in Darfur last year - such as r*pe, targeted attacks, sexual violence and mass killings - are being repeated in Gezira State,' adding that 'these are atrocious crimes.'

(Her reference is to September 2023, when RSF allied forces buried over 1,000 bodies in 'hastily dug mass graves' in West Darfur's Geneina city.)

The Israeli military plans to split Gaza City from the rest of the north, in an operation that appears to be the first official acknowledgement that Israel plans to permanently displace northern Gaza’s population, Israeli general Gen Itzik Cohen told reporters in a media briefing on Tuesday night according to the Guardian.

Cities in the north, including Beit Lahiya and Jabalia, have been under weeks of relentless Israeli air strikes, military ground operations and siege.
