in persepolis, women both for and against the veil are portrayed with agency, even if in the context of theocracy. satrapi used her transnational status to place this in deliberate contrast to the 'enlightened' west, where women are objectified and belittled. islamophobic how?
Yes and that means what? Women should stop speaking about oppression because the US might use it to justify invasion? Because if not for Persepolis, Americans would have been flooding streets, striking to stop the US war machine from bombing schoolgirls in Iran?
You know families who get mad at children who talk about having been abused to strangers due to having fewer filters? That's how IR supporters see Marjane Satrapi's art. They don't deny the veracity of most elements, only that it was expressed, to an audience they disapprove.
The "national project of Iran" can go fuck itself. "Leftists" of all kinds of hokum persuasions can cry themselves hoarse, but nationalism would ALWAYS be a reactionary position no matter how much "anti imperialist" LARP you project onto national projects
The reason Persepolis is liked by Western imperialists despite the author's many explicit anti-Western stances is bc she demonstrates no commitment whatsoever to the national project of Iran, only to the personal hedonic interests of herself and her friends and kin.
it is pretty funny that the website that tripped over itself to paint Marjane Satrapi as some neolib class traitor will also spill gallons of ink about why Garth Ennis is basically Fidel Castro for writing The Boys
one liner or used to signal aesthetic on Hinge.
Refuse to process the tragedy of how she died if you must because its really uncomfortable to confront. But stop cosplaying anti imperialism to drag on a dead woman, it doesn't make you look as smart as you think it does
Marjane Satrapi's biggest fault was that she didn't produce slop. The kind of sad crap which lends itself to easy digestion and categorisation which passes for art on social media. She confused people who refuse to form political opinions which can't be articulated in a punchy

This triumph of “lived experience” over study has been disastrous for political analysis as a whole. Living your life as a certain group gives you no real expertise in analyzing their struggles and doesn’t make you an authority on the political of philosophical study of them.
Unfortunately, I have to admit that I have not done my best. My current situation is a direct consequence of my incompetence. I suck at doing this life thing.
@Gurhi_jalebi@getoffmadickson You have been interacting with me for so many years now, you shouldn't be asking these questions - I am a lame person so i do lame stuff, simple 🤷🏾♂️
