For todays Wellie Wednesday Walk, @HeathSomers Reception ventured outside to make wildlife collages. These amazing artworks were made using things we found in our school grounds. Each one was different and creative and showed their individuality. #eyfs#teamsomers
Big thanks to the Dragon Ball team who came to @HeathSomers today to show us their fantastic game. All the children had fun playing in different ways. The game is super inclusive and incredibly fun. #teamsomers#eyfs#dragonball
This week in @HeathSomers our reception classes have been wildlife photographers! Armed with iPads, we went on the hunt for flowers and mini beasts. The flowers were easy to spot, but I think the mini beasts were hiding from the sun… #teamsomers
Today in @HeathSomers Reception classes, we have been wearing Moki activity trackers to see how active we are during the day. With the outdoor spaces, lunch time and free-flow learning we were expecting high numbers, but not THIS high! Still half the day to go…! #teamsomers
Last week @HeathSomers Reception went on a school trip to Barleylands Farm. We saw lots of animals including alpacas and wallabies, and had a lot of fun feeding the goats! The children also made pizza and learned where all the ingredients come from. #eyfs#teamsomers
Last week in @HeathSomers Reception we were learning aboriginal measure. We measured objects using rulers and used tape measures for our heights. Before the rain came we went outside and drew around ourselves with chalk then measured our outlines. #outdoormaths#eyfs#teamsomers
We had some exotic visitors in @HeathSomers Reception class today. One of our fantastic teachers brought in some of their pets for the children to see and hold. What a treat! #teamsomers#fantasticbeasts
Children in Reception at @HeathSomers are showing their independent writing skills and their adjective knowledge by creating their own word banks to help describe the main character in ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Great writing, team! #teamsomers
We have been greeted with glorious sunny weather this week, so what better way to start our ‘Growing’ topic than to get outside and draw some beautiful flowers! Some budding artists in Reception this year… #teamsomers#somersheath@HeathSomers
In our last ‘Welly Wednesday Walk’ of the term, we have been hunting for bugs. The moist ground and warm weather meant our Reception children found all kinds of creepy-crawlies! We looked under stones and bricks to find our mini friends. #EYFS#teamsomers
We have been putting pen to paper in Reception recently, encouraging our little authors to tell, record and write their own stories. We have had some brilliant ideas and very impressive writing! Keep it up, gang! #teamsomers#eyfs
This term is all about the great outdoors. Our little explorers have been reading ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’ and ‘The Gruffalo’ which has inspired mud painting, chalk drawing and descriptive writing. We even had our very own Gruffalo on World Book Day! #teamsomers#eyfs
Oh, it’s good to be outdoors! Today some of our reception children explored the outside areas of our school looking for interesting nature finds to bring back to the classroom. We used magnifying glasses to take a closer look at our found treasure. #EYFS#outdoors#teamsomers
In maths we have been exploring capacity talking about empty and full containers. We have also explored water displacement and found that even when we didn’t add any more water the water level rose because of the animals in the water.
We were in good shape in Reception this week. Our maths topic was the composition of shapes and our class showed themselves to be diamonds at making different pictures out of shapes. Check out some to these funky pictures… #teamsomers#EYFS#shapes
“Who’s that trip-trapping over my bridge?”
Which gruesome traditional tale character growled those words? We have been reading and innovating the story in Reception this week, and we have been quick-building bridges out of different materials!
We have been reading the story of The Little Red Hen. In the story, the hen makes bread from the wheat she grows. Fortunately, we had a bit more help with our bread making…! Yum yum! #teamsomers#eyfs
