From these pages we can safely assume that the God Gepang’s followers were primitive Bon religion followers ie dömai bon, the religion before yung drung bon.
Guru Padmasambhava defeated many local deities and gave them oath to protect Buddhism. As per this pic and post from facebook,Raja Gepang was a local protector deity overpowered by Guru Padmasambhav.
I really feel if we get list of such local deities,more such stories will emerge
Shaukas of Pithoragarh, Uttrakhand had a tradition where the elderly after attaining a certain age left their homes for attaining salvation. While leaving their homes, they took just a few morsel of food.Quite a unique tradition, not heard of it anywhere else.
Even in books of 19th century, by British authors,this clan has been mentioned as being entrusted with tasks only to be accomplished by them regarding informing Tibetan rulers regarding certain critical information, or taking permission to allow certain people entry to tibet.

Sh. Kedar singh Fonia, was a Minister many times in Undivided Uttar Pradesh.
First CIvil servant, (Indian foreign service), of our valley was also a Fonia.
Fonia clan had the privilege to be the first ones to trade when the season opened for India tibet trade.After they came back was trade open for others.
Certain other business families did not like this prerogative and filed a suit with the British.
They won & fonia clan lost.
