43 and 41 year old Oystercatchers. Long lives. Imagine what they've experienced. Greater care frm the public abt nature but also dogs off leash running at them & when repeated, causing them to lose fitness to reproduce, excessive nutrients in places, tougher weather conditions.

2nd place in the Biodiversity Photographer of the Year competition goes to A Dandy Siskin by Elliot Wood. The judges loved this delightful image of a Siskin picking off a seed where the connection of the bird to its natural environment is extremely well captured
All indications from this summer's monitoring are that the #HenHarrier continues its steady decline to extinction in 🇮🇪
We've seen a 33% decline since 2015 & a 59% decline since 2000📉

Winner of the Biodiversity Photographer of the Year competition is Shy Poser by Declan Goulding. The judges were captivated by this beautiful portrait of an elusive hare. The poise of the hare and the apparent eye contact makes this an exceptionally beautiful image

Come on down & say hi! 🌻
Ireland has been turned from a mostly (around 80%) forested island into a prairie of cattle or sheep, broken up only by the odd hedge or tree plantation. The result: endless tracts of biodiversity desert.
There's so much need to make space for wild things again.
#Rewilding 🌎
"Buy Conor Pass, make it a national park, and rewild it."
This is the @UpliftIRL petition started by @saoirse_mchugh last August, signed by almost 20k people.
The state *did* buy Conor Pass, *did* make it a national park, and has sheep grazing it. 🤦♀️🤦♂️🤦🏼

📷 #1: hiking up an Irish mountain. A barren, eroding, overgrazed landscape. No wildlife. Just sheep.
📷 #2: hiking up an Italian mountain. Lush, healthy forests. Lots of wildlife.
Irish hills and mountains should be covered in forests and wildlife, but they're not.
Austria, today. By tomorrow night we should begin to know whether politicians committed to delivering more #climate chaos & ecological breakdown have taken control of the EU.
"Almost 20% of farmers would look at rewetting their farms."
It's clear that if farmers had the option of being decently paid to rewild, many would avail. Great for them, nature, the climate, our entire society.
Why is this STILL not on offer???
