Throwback newsletter message from 2009. Still rings true today, as we look forward to JagFest 2026!
-----
Today is the 10th anniversary of JagFest '99. It wasn't the first JagFest, and it (thankfully! ) wasn't the last. But it was a great event I will always look back on fondly. In many ways, it was the "kickoff" event for Songbird Productions which itself had only been in existence for a few months. Who could have known back then how vocal and faithful Lynx and Jaguar fans would remain over the years?
I am so grateful to all of the customers and fans for keeping the flame alive for these cherished systems. It's been amazing to see other hobby developers rise to the challenge as well, and deliver quality games for Atari systems all the way through 2009.
The opportunity to meet fellow fans at JagFest '99 will always be a highlight of that event. In retrospect, it's very humbling that so many people would travel so far to make that tiny event in Rochester, MN, a success: Kevin M., Scott W., Clay H., Dan L., Dan I., Jason D., Pat F., Max, Gary, and so many more. I had a blast watching people play games and doing interviews on my state-of-the- art 8mm camcorder (not just 8, it was Super-8!), and I think I managed to squeeze in a few games myself. There was a network of at least 4 Lynxes playing games like Checkered Flag, and of course Clay defeated all challengers on the Zero 5 tournament.
Thanks to everyone who has remained a Lynx or Jaguar fan over the years, and special thanks to everyone who made JagFest '99 a success. You have my respect and my thanks!

Pre-orders for Green Land for the #AtariLynx are open now at Songbird! This is a limited-run item. Get your pre-order in by June 14 to guarantee your copy.
Green Land is a very cool game; I have played it many hours myself. I love the tile-laying "build your city" mechanics. The games are short, so you always feel like "I know I could do better with one more try..."

I've enjoyed The Phantom Menance since day one. It's not perfect, but it sure is fun.
Jar-Jar isn't nearly as annoying as prevailing wisdom said he was back in the day. The pod racing is highly watchable, and the Jedi/Maul duel is Star Wars perfection.
Plus, it yielded one of my all-time favorite board games: SW The Queen's Gambit.
The Phantom Menace presents the vision of a man with absolutely no restraints, whether they be creative, technical, or financial. I know many consider that to be one of the film's greatest faults, and George Lucas himself even toned some things down like Jar Jar and midichlorians in Episodes II and III in response to fan backlash.
But I actually really appreciate that Phantom Menace is arguably the one Star Wars film that just projects George's brain directly onto the screen with zero filters.
Everclear Lucas if you will. Such a fascinating, imaginative, and colorful movie that has weathered the criticisms and stood the test of time. There will never be another film like it.
We've successfully completed the host migration for Songbird!
You should see the regular site with no yellow banner; if you do see the yellow banner, then you're on the old site, and hopefully that will resolve by tomorrow.
I spent at least 40 hours on this migration in the past 5 days. Yuck! Hope to never do that again. Big shout out to @AtariAge for all of his moral and tech support during the process.
@RandyDPearson It's crazy that there's not an easier way to migrate a website from one host to another in 2026. It took me several days of trial and error testing to isolate what was causing a massive graphics glitch in the destination host. Then the actual move took about 6-8 hours.
@SongbirdPro@kretro_gaming For people who hesitate to order and want to test the game, here is the link to the current Release Candidate (so very close from the final ROM that will be put on cartridge)
