But both of these verses from Romans 11 are the ending of a three chapter argument from Paul that, in context, are about God’s choice in using Israel in his redemptive plan.
It is not about individual choice at all. It’s corporate.
And Paul, in chapter 11, tells the Gentiles not to be arrogant that they are grafted is. He makes the point that branches cut off and discarded can be grafted back in if they bear good fruit, an idea that refutes both determinism and individual choice.
Calvinism is steeped in reading the text out of context. There’s so much of the Bible that refutes Calvinism, and it’s something that the early Christians didn’t follow or believe. It wasn’t until sometime between 411AD and 430AD when Augustine first mentioned determinism. And even then, he believed very little of what was to ultimately become Calvinism.
Rom 9-11 Chosen for service? ….to that the Calvinist says Amen
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
— Romans 12:1
@MrEncouragement@rootcausesleuth Calvinism affirms both individual election ie Issac and Jacob and the corporate aspect of election which is True Israel.
@rootcausesleuth Right, the Gentiles didn’t pursue righteousness but obtained a righteousness which is by Faith.
“What then? What Israel is seeking, ( righteousness ) it has not obtained, 👉but those who were chosen obtained it, ( righteousness by faith) and the rest were hardened;
— Romans 11:7
@rootcausesleuth The Apostle Paul says
“In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant 👉according to
🏆God’s gracious choice.
— Romans 11:5
Wrong ! God’s Grace and mercy is what saves. Romans 11 says that “Election” = “Gracious Choice “
“In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice.
— Romans 11:5
Election is what saves you, ultimately, on Calvinism.
“Election is the fountain of every saving good, from which proceed faith, holiness, and the other gifts of salvation, and finally eternal life itself, as its fruits and effects…”
Canons of Dort
God grants / gives all the necessary conditions for salvation
Per..his Oath and promises to Abraham Gen 15:17. Faith is the evidence of the New Birth and Faith flows from Election. Man in and of himself doesn’t produce faith but rather man actualizes the Faith given to him.

@OrdellSpivey@Lindaloves1776@EvanPaul05 Faith doesn’t cause the new birth but rather faith is the evidence of the new birth. Those who are born of flesh cannot see , hear or understand Spiritual things. The Gospel is God’s word ie Spiritual Truth.
@OrdellSpivey@Lindaloves1776@EvanPaul05 No. You misunderstand what John is saying . John goes on to explain that
“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ (is)born of God / has been born of God ….”
— 1 John 5:1
You have to say that ( whoever believes will be born of God. )
@Lindaloves1776@EvanPaul05 One problem
“He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
— John 8:47
John defines “of God “ as born of God “ ie regeneration.
