This was not surprisingly Electronic Arts fault as the terms and conditions were made before they even bought the RenderWare Engine.

The engine that the game runs on is owned by EA and can’t be re-released without a contract.

Sonic Team Head Takashi Iizuka says he would like to see every Sonic game available on modern consoles, but given the cost of making that happen (not just porting, but remaking), the team would rather focus on new experiences.
