Final-Year KMTC Student Dies After Allegedly Being Thrown From Moving Matatu on Thika Road.
What was meant to be another ordinary day on attachment turned tragic for Eugene Mutuku, a final-year student at KMTC Yata (Matuu), who was preparing to graduate later this year.
Eugene had only begun his clinical attachment at a hospital in Kasarani on Tuesday. On Thursday morning, while travelling to work, he became the victim of a horrific incident involving a Nicco Movers SACCO bus, registration number KDV 713J.
According to reports, a conductor allegedly forced Eugene out of the moving vehicle along Thika Road, causing him to crash onto the tarmac where he was subsequently run over. Witnesses say the young student was left with severe injuries and was writhing in pain by the roadside.
A Good Samaritan who rushed to his aid quickly picked him up and began the journey to seek urgent medical attention. During the rescue, the same bus was reportedly spotted at Garden Estate picking up passengers. The rescuer informed the crew that the passenger they had thrown from the vehicle was critically injured and requested their assistance in taking him to hospital.
However, the crew reportedly showed little concern and instead indicated that they would proceed to a police station to make a report.
The Good Samaritan continued the rescue effort alone and rushed Eugene to Kenyatta National Hospital. Despite medical intervention, the promising healthcare student later succumbed to his injuries.
His death has sparked outrage and renewed calls for accountability, with many Kenyans demanding justice for the young man whose life was cut short just months before graduation.
