Overall i'm quite pleased with the update, quite a few things added + they feel really good.

I like how consistent the depleation changes make the new tree.

The old mechanics make it fustrating to afk, but not rewarding for paying attention. They also punish players gathering together.

I know this is an experiment, but i hope they update the previous tiers.

And to close it all off, i'm glad they require a woodcutting method, leading it to at least be used somewhat. I might be to blame for this, so if you hate doing overgrown idols, it was me. Sorry.

There's also the chance of getting enhanced bird's nests. Yet another extra reward for paying attention. Makes it feel like doing slayer and getting that random uncommon drop. You don't hunt it, but always expect it to happen and that makes it exciting.
