Fingers crossed for all the coastal villages along the western Alaska coast. We studied coastal thaw slumps and Cape Blossom on the Baldwin Peninsula in August - now with this major storm coming through we expect substantial late season erosion at the base of these coastal cliffs

The other day I got to be an Arctic boat captain, navigating our expedition team back to town after a long day of #permafrost #fieldwork down the coast. After we ran out of fuel only an hour in, I gladly handed back all responsibility to someone actually in charge, though ;) 🚢

Today's #PermaX|Scan weather was rather foggy, wet, and even snowy in the morning. No UAV flights, no LiDAR scans; no #RemoteSensing today. But we still made good use of the time and gathered some water samples and active layer depths and temperatures.
