@americanmcgee Question y’aura t’il une édition du lapin d’Alice ?
Lots of people linking these EA news articles to me. So I guess I need to (again) outline my thoughts on the topic.
First, as always, I appreciate your passion for the Alice IP and your support of me ❤️
Reading the article, the core elements include EA looking to cut costs; sell underperforming IP; and churn out profit generating sequels.
If those are truly the goals then one could argue that they'd be wiser to hold onto the Alice IP. It's costing them nothing. And generates profits (I get the sales reports). And if they wanted to do a sequel, they could do it for "free" the same way they did Madness Returns (bond financing an external developer with a bank loan).
That appears to me to be the conservative plan of action in relation to the Alice IP. A little further detail:
Selling it? Keep in mind it's a "split IP" as EA doesn't own or control the linear (film, TV, lit) rights. That diminishes the value to a potential buyer.
And IPs just aren't that valuable on their own - if someone wanted a safer bet on one of my projects, they'd probably fund Dreadfuland (Plushie Dreadfuls is already massively profitable, successful, has a dedicated team, and is totally unencumbered).
The question continues to be asked about my desire to continue working on the IP. I've made clear multiple times that my work is done. The Asylum Design Bible contains the game story and design. Not sure what else people expect from me... That's the contribution I make to these projects... Writing and design.
What's critical for any future Alice game is finding a development team that loves and understands the IP and desires to maintain the spirit, style, and integrity of the first two games. How hard is it to not put Alice in a mini skirt or slap intrusive monetization on everything?
But this is all speculation. My stance hasn't changed. And my focus continues to be on @PlushieDreadful, growing the business, and the Spare Hearts game development. Feel free to support me through those efforts ❤️
