어제 쁘락 소콘 캄보디아 부총리 겸 외교장관과 면담을 가졌습니다. 지난해 11월 캄보디아를 방문한 이후 8개월 만의 재회입니다.

저와 쁘락 소콘 부총리는 스캠 범죄 등 초국가 범죄 대응을 위한 양국 공조가 큰 성과를 거두고 있는 점, 특히 코리아 전담반의 활약으로 우리 국민 피해 신고가 크게 감소한 점을 평가했습니다. 쁘락 소콘 부총리는 우리 국민의 안전을 위해 최선을 다하고 있다고 하면서 스캠 범죄 근절을 위해 계속 노력해 나갈 것이라고 하였습니다.

우리는 양국 간 인적 교류 확대와 경제 협력 강화를 위해 함께 노력하기로 하면서, 특히 내년 재수교 30주년을 맞아 양국 관계를 한 단계 더 도약시킬 수 있도록 긴밀히 협력해 나가기로 하였습니다.

Yesterday, I met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn of Cambodia. It was a pleasure to meet him again following our previous meeting in Cambodia last November.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and I noted that the collaboration between our two countries in combating transnational crimes has yielded significant results. I conveyed my deep appreciation for Cambodia's efforts as well as the activities of the Korea-Cambodia Joint Task Force that have contributed to a sharp decline in reported cases of crimes against our nationals. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn stated that Cambodia is making every effort to ensure the safety of Korean nationals, and will continue efforts to crack down on scam-related crimes.

He and I also agreed to work together to expand people-to-people exchanges and strengthen economic cooperation between our two countries. With next year marking the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of our diplomatic relations, we will continue to engage in close cooperation to further enhance our partnership.

The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) has rejected Thailand's claim that three Thai soldiers were injured in an explosion caused by newly planted landmines allegedly laid by Cambodia near the border.

“At this time, no official and transparent investigation has been carried out regarding the reported incident involving injured Thai soldiers. In the absence of verified facts, all parties must exercise restraint in public statements,” the authority said in a statement issued on August 9.

Since the five-day clash between Cambodia and Thailand last month, tensions have remained unresolved despite a ceasefire.

This conflict has had serious consequences — claiming lives and damaging the economy, society and development.

As a result, nationalism has surged in both countries. Thailand has reportedly reduced its supply of goods to Cambodia, while many Cambodians have started boycotting Thai products.

Cambodia has long relied heavily on imports from Thailand. From January to April this year alone, imports reached nearly $1.16 billion, whereas exports to Thailand stood at $327.78 million.

This over-reliance presents a unique opportunity. The current situation could serve as a turning point for Cambodia to strengthen its domestic production and encourage greater consumption of locally made goods.

BREAKING: PM formally requests Nobel nomination for Trump

Prime Minister Hun Manet has sent a formal letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to support the candidacy of US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“In accordance with the wishes of Cambodian people both inside and outside of Cambodia, as well as to express our sincere appreciation for President Donald Trump's initiative and support contributing greatly to an immediate ceasefire between Cambodian and Thai forces and his continuous attention on its successful implementation until peace is fully achieved between the two countries; I, as the Prime Minister of Cambodia, have submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee an official letter of nomination for President Donald Trump for the Noble Peace Prize,” he said.
