72 year old doctor, Giorgi Chakhunashvili has been sentenced to 5 years in prison.

His “crime”? Being a doctor and helping people during the October 4, 2025 protests.

Professor Chakhunashvili told the court that he went to the rally, but when the situation escalated, he entered the Presidential Palace yard only to fulfill his duty as a doctor. He refused to apologize for something he did not do. He was carrying only a saline solution to provide medical assistance.

“Greetings from Gldani prison.

I have just walked through the prison corridor. I have much to think about, but the most important thing remains the health of my colleagues, my fellow-minded people, and an honest, professional, patriotic society , both outside and inside prison.

I want you to know that I am strong and healthy. Wherever I am, first and foremost, I remain a professional doctor. I have already helped several ‘patients’ here as well.

I loved Georgia, I love Georgia today, and I will always love Georgia.

I believe in Georgia’s future and in its youth in the dawn of a successful homeland dressed in kindness, greatness, and beauty.”
