With an outlay of ₹84,084 crore through FY 2030–31, #SamudraManthan represents India’s largest coordinated effort to systematically explore and develop the energy resources beneath its seas.

The National Offshore Exploration Scheme will advance government-supported 2D and 3D seismic surveys, deepwater and ultra-deepwater drilling, scientific exploration of frontier basins and support for offshore exploratory wells. It will also promote common offshore infrastructure, digital programme management, advanced technology adoption, capacity building, global collaboration and a domestic oil and gas manufacturing and services ecosystem.

By reducing exploration risks, enabling faster development of discoveries and strengthening indigenous capabilities, the mission can unlock new reserves, attract investment, enhance domestic production and reduce India’s dependence on energy imports.

From ambition to action, India’s deepwater journey moves forward.

Under the visionary #SamudraManthan Campaign, #ONGC has achieved a significant milestone with the spudding of a deepwater well in the Mahanadi Basin on 25 July 2026.

Located around 23 nautical miles from Konark, the well builds upon the promising Utkal and Konark discoveries, which reinforce the hydrocarbon prospectivity of the basin. Its nearshore location also offers the potential for faster development and earlier monetisation of future discoveries.

Driving this mission is #DeepX, ONGC’s handpicked team of more than 30 experts, equipped with advanced technologies, strengthened by global collaboration and guided by the principle of “One Company, One Data.”
