#ReliefWednesday - Back side of the Altar of the Twins (Ara dei Gemelli) from Ostia dedicated to the divine couple of Mars and Venus and to the God Silvanus. The reliefs show a scene with the she-wolf nursing Romulus and Remus, a personification of the river Tiber, and two fleeing shepherds, probably Faustulus, the adoptive father of the twins and his brother Faustinus. On the left is the personification of the Palatine, also dressed as a shepherd.

The altar was dedicated on 1 October AD 124, by one Publius Aelius Syneros, the freedman of Publius Aelius Trophimus, himself a freedman of Hadrian and procurator of the Province of Crete.

At Ortaköy-Sapinuwa they excavated a Hittite grain silo. The 4 channels are for removing moisture, which is supposed to flow down an incline to the stone lined pit in the centre. Similar designs are known from other sites in Turkey. https://t.co/bDFAwMXwA0
