✅ The Southington Fire Department is proud to announce the successful award of the 2022 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), totaling $130,327.27.
Our @CTDEMHS Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) is on the ground in Vermont working closely with @vemvt & other USAR teams along the Winooski River initiating rescues of residents trapped by flood waters. This morning the teams rescued 5 people and 3 pets. #VTflood23
Early this afternoon, fire crews rescued an injured hiker who fell from a cliff at Ragged Mountain. Patient was carried out of the the woods by FD members, and transported to Hartford hospital by Lifestar 3.

While additional training will continue through Spring, the apparatus is in service and ready to respond to the next rescue.

We recently took delivery of a 2023 Polaris XP1000, unit designation UTV-1. The unit is equipped with a dual use fire/rescue skid, capable of transporting patients as well as extinguishing brush fires. It is equipped with an 85 gallon water tank, 2.5 gallon..
class A (non-PFAS) foam cell, and 50ft of forestry hose. The addition will greatly aid our crews in locating and transporting injured hikers, transporting personnel and equipment to rope rescue incidents, and allow us to more efficiently extinguish remote brush fires.
