Very collaborative work from SPAC led by neuroscientist @MagSimal, physicist @fredericorfr, and psychologist Cristina Mendonça.
Now out @NatureHumBehav

Are the least knowledgeable also unaware of it?
How does confidence vary with (scientific) knowledge?
After years of working on these questions @SpacLab, our results are out in @NatureHumBehav

Had a fun conversation w/ @ConorJDillon + Gabriel Borrud for #ScienceUnscripted podcast @dwnews
Starting from @SpacLab's recent paper, we discussed how much we should "dumb down" science to make it accessible and lowering the bar for saying "I don't know"

New paper from the lab!
For the 1st time it's not #openaccess but reach out for re-prints, or read view-only version here: https://t.co/nuJVO58Gmy.
The fee money will go towards an internship for underprivileged researchers (details soon)

@SpacLab had 3 abstracts accepted to @CompleNet and we’re looking forward to it. However, the students decided not to go when they realized it would fall on April 25th. I hope all attendees have a great time and the opportunity to learn about why we could not be there today.
We're #hiring an admin assistant @Spaclab!
Candidates do not need experience (only knowledge of PT and EN) as we'll offer training. The internship can turn into a work contract.
Also, the admin and scientific teams at @lip_pt are super nice!

New pre-print!
- How did the dynamics of non-influenza respiratory viruses change during the #COVID19 pandemic?
- What were the effects of weather and mobility?
- How should surveillance and monitoring systems integrate this information?
PRE-PRINT from @SpacLab
What we call the "flu season" results from several different respiratory viruses including #influenza, #RSV, #corona...These mostly infect(ed) during the winter but the #COVID19 pandemic seriously disrupted their dynamics. How? 1/

Who is more susceptible to disinformation? When? Why? If interested in our approach, you can now read this excellent short piece. Thank you @ERC_Research and Laura Bauer for such a clear highlight! @lip_pt@SpacLab
He found that salience can vary greatly between fora raising interesting questions on current salience metrics. Is it enough to look at only one source?
Great discussion with @ecozzo and Tiago Guerreio. Super proud of his work and brilliant grade and we wish you all the best!
Congratulations to @almeida_d_c for his MSc defense in #DataScience@FC_UL! With @mjoanasa + @CPesquita, David built a large dataset of news, tweets, online searches and looked at salience of different topics (science, politics, climate...) from year -1 to year 1 of #COVID19
É já amanhã.
Precisamos de um novo sistema de monitorização e controlo de doenças respiratórias virais e vamos estar a discutir ideias.
Todos os contributos são bem vindos, em pessoa, via zoom ou email.

Misinfo researchers, what do you see as the major controversies / points of disagreement within the field currently? Plz share widely to see what we come up with - thanks!
Past interaction on social networks influences our feed. Similarly, past searches influence results to future searches
But how does browsing history influence search engines to recommend #misinformation? @siri_zabele presenting work w/ @JoseM_Reis Victoria room @ccs2022#ERC_PoC
2. Tomorrow @siri_zabele 4:30pm, Victoria on auditing search engines for fake news recommendations
3 and 4. Thursday’s Poster session with @Dr_Lil and @MesquitaSra on information spread on Twitter and learning from pandemics to inform seasonal nowcasting, respectively.
@ERC_Research has just announced the new round of the #ERCPoC and @SpacLab was one of the awardees. @JoseM_Reis, @siri_zabele, @pddalm and others are trying to help burst the (dis)information bubble by auditing search engines and how they rank results
