@dcoopbball We're going from a zone defense to man next season. Im wondering how to practice our offense when we're playing man but every team in our league plays zone.
@davidpollack47 Youth sports, like healthcare & government imo, aren't industries that should be commercialized & profited from. However, it's become a giant that's hard to stop. As coaches & administrators, we have to try our best to discussions with families. As some r under pressure from fomo
I’m not sure about all the kids out there playing QB, but I’m overwhelmed by all the new teachings of QB tech! We are trying to teach what every exact body part should be doing at every moment! I just picked up a ball and practiced… played numerous sports to become an athlete… never had a true QB coach that trained me on technique… & I’d challenge anyone to an accuracy contest bc if what I learned along the way!
I’m not saying all this stuff can’t be good, but I think too many times we are trying too hard to focus on ALL these things instead of letting guys learn to feel their bodies, understand the keys to throwing & figuring out what is right & wrong on their own!
It’s really hard to self-correct when you don’t understand WHY you made or missed a throw… I had to figure this out on my own & it helped me to coach myself & be able to work on “throwing” when no one else was around!
Steve Kerr’s advice to parents of young athletes
”Keep your mouth shut… How can you possibly play at 10 years old when you’ve got 12 people yelling at you? Just be supportive because they’re going to feel so much more comfortable if you do that.”
@Coach_DeMarco It's an emphasis every day when we play. The last 4 minutes of a game we define as "winning time." we discuss and rep what must and can't happen, including different scenarios that come up..
I think the big emphasis has to be your best players' step up and control the game.
@J_Thack1 Taking a step back, I believe this mindset stems from limited practice before a season. In some states, you get 2,3 weeks b4 games. In KY I get 6 weeks and 2 scrimmages. So I dont have to use summer for instal, though some coaches do that.
@J_Thack1 I know how it feels for the gym to be near empty during summer. But I honestly dont understand the need to control and dictate the summer. Its not there or our season. When I prioritized fellowship over workouts. Attendance exploded! Too much too type but that's my story
@3SeedTraining This isn't open gym then, why do coaches look to control everything?
In KY, preseason and season are 6 months. Can I not open the gym and let them go for a couple month's?
@skylerdelgad0 far as HS is concerned, why does anything need to b installed during summer? In KY, for 6 months, Im structuring things. Can they not have 2 months to do their own thing. Last night, my team played VB for the first 6 minutes, & I was cool. We played 5v5 4 an hr I dont coach them.
@ChuckSmith414 Players have too many reps imo
Theres a place & balance 4 everything. truthfully, youth are way too structured in sports these days..
4 example, my son wanted to work on curving the ball into the goal. We worked on it for nearly an hour. His friend showed him in 3 minutes
@Coach__Strick All seriousness though, when I went to watch, I made it clear Im not their coach, just a fan.
Im not evaluating or judging just cheering.
