Gweedore weir on the River Clady, Co Donegal, earlier today. It causes numerous ecological problems - especially for endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussels & salmon in this SAC. Only has a 4.2MW capacity but was recently refurbished by @ESBGroup - it should have been decommissioned!

Otters require healthy fish stocks to survive. Lampreys should be an important food for Otters throughout the River Mulkear catchment. However, their migration is blocked by Annacotty weir in the lower reaches of the river.

Huge concern in the area about the Dawn Meats planning application to discharge by a new 7.2km pipeline their treated effluent into the Boyne. This is the drinking water source for all of East Meath, Duleek, Donore, Stamullen, Kentstown, Ashbourne and Ratoath.
