NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office confirmed the details: The object was roughly 6 feet in diameter and weighed about 7 tons. It first became visible at an altitude of 50 miles above Lake Erie (off the beaches of Lorain, Ohio), traveling southeast at ~40,000 mph (17.5 km/s). It covered more than 34 miles through the upper atmosphere before fragmenting (exploding) at ~30 miles altitude directly over Valley City, north of Medina in Medina County. The energy release was equivalent to 250 tons of TNT, generating the pressure wave that produced the loud boom and shook houses.

The fireball was visible in broad daylight across at least 10 states (Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Illinois, and others) plus parts of Canada, with the American Meteor Society logging hundreds of eyewitness reports (some sources cite 140–175+). NOAA’s GOES satellite (Geostationary Lightning Mapper) and ground cameras (including school bus garage and dashcam footage) captured it clearly.
My Question is, did any of these organizations see this coming before it entered our atmosphere? No warning, if this didn't burn up, how many lives would have been lost?
