We aim to spotlight the roles of innovative architects by delving into their philosophy and creativity, and preserve our architectural heritage
Welcome to June!!
As we transition into the second half of the year, our focus deepens. Architecture is not just about building walls; itโs about the thoughtful making of space, the manipulation of light, and the journey through it.

Wherever the masters gather, the archive follows. ๐ฅโจ...
We kept that promise. It was an incredible last week of connecting with the visionaries shaping our cities and the brilliant students who will design our future at LAF 17.0
Indeed, the Archive is growing.

What once stood as order, openness, and intention has transformed into density, movement, and survival.
This is not just about โthenโ and โnowโ
itโs about how a city adapts, and redefines itself with every generation.
Are we shaping the cityโฆ or is the city shaping us?
Form gives a building identity.
Function gives it purpose. It organizes space and responds to human need.
At first glance, they appear to compete.
But strip away the aesthetics, and both approaches resolve the same fundamental problem:
how architecture serves people.
African interior design is defined by its ability to merge culture, material, and environment into a cohesive spatial experience.
It moves beyond aesthetics, offering a design approach that is contextual, sustainable, and identity-driven.
Hausa vernacular architecture demonstrates a sophisticated integration of climate responsiveness, material efficiency, and cultural expression.
Its relevance in contemporary practice lies in its ability to inform sustainable, context-driven design approaches.
In Frame A, the column represents structural clarity, direct, efficient, and abstract. In Frame B, the caryatid performs the same role, but through the human form, transforming load into a visual narrative of weight and support. The concept remains constant. The language changes
IS THE CONCEPT THE SAME?
Strip away aesthetics, and the structural logic is identical, both the column and the caryatid transfer load vertically from the entablature to the foundation.
The distinction lies in expression.
Without it, spaces feel confusing and disconnected.
Good architecture doesnโt demand attention, it guides you through it.

Good design is not just seen, it is experienced and understood.
Hierarchy brings order to space, quietly guiding movement, defining importance, and shaping how users interact with a building. It turns complexity into clarity and intention into experience.
The Faculty of Arts building at the University of Lagos presents a clear expression of modernist design principles through its repetitive faรงade, linear organization, and passive environmental strategies.
