Sony has quietly replaced “PC” with “AI” in its latest annual report’s PlayStation business description.
The move has sparked backlash over the company’s future priorities.
The updated wording indicates AI is becoming a bigger part of Sony’s long-term plans.
Sony has said it sees AI as a tool to help developers, not replace them. The company is using AI to speed up tasks only according to them..
One internal tool, called Mockingbird, can turn performance capture data into facial animations in seconds instead of hours.
Sony is also exploring other AI projects, including patents for personalized podcasts featuring PlayStation characters.
Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Hideaki Nishino has responded to reports about PlayStation’s PC strategy.
He said, “We’ve always determined platform selection based on the characteristics of each title. If releasing a title on PC would maximize the gaming experience, we’ll continue to consider that option.”
Nishino also said, “Our current main policy is that, for single-player games developed in-house, we will further refine the value of the gaming experience that PlayStation can offer.”
He explained why multiplayer titles are treated differently: “We believe it is important for live-service games to reach a wider audience through online multiplayer, so we continue to view releases on both PS5 and PC as the standard.”
PlayStation single-player games will remain exclusive to PS5, Sony has not officially said they will never come to PC.
The company says it will continue to make decisions based on delivering the best possible experience for each game.

Apple has not said which products will be affected or when the changes will happen, but expect future iPhones to be even more expensive.
