We've been experimenting with AI for imagining new urban designs💭
Using #SDXL 1.0 and #ComfyUI, we had some fun "building ideas from pixels to bricks" with #Minecraft Spectra Cities🏙️ (see more in thread🖼️)

Taking off our VR headsets for a minute, we took it back to the 2010s with a new blog series: "Ten Stories of Urban Design"
Here are the first three stories on streetlife, public space, and urban agriculture (see thread).

I dream of virtual street corners that are not only collectively experienced but also collectively owned and negotiated.
Concept diagram showing the relationship between a virtual sandbox and real cities. Our work @numenavr for @SpectraCities, a CC0 city.
Our "pixels to bricks" approach means experiencing the form & feel of urban designs in real-time & scale.
With 2 sliders, discover how width & height affect mobility, public space, density, and climate resilience before 1 brick is laid.
Urbanism is more accessible than ever!
Urbanism in two sliders. All you need to go from Manhattan to sprawl is the ratio between street width & building height.
Experiencing this at 1:1 scale, while standing in the middle of the road, makes a world of difference.

This year I experienced a very broad spectrum of urbanism.
Gleaming towers in Dubai and Singapore. Narrow walkways in Venice and Bali. Lush greenways in Seoul and Milan.
Today I experienced all of these conditions in a few minutes using a new VR tool from @numenavr using @spectracities 3d assets.
A simple hand-tracking slider allows you to instantly change your street from narrow path to shared use street to highway to greenway.
The app lets you change building heights from single story, to midrise, to skyscraper. And you can mix and match heights and widths to make your perfect street.
The beauty of building Spectra as a virtual city first is that we can experiment on the form and show people how simple urban design decisions radically change how people feel in a city.
We are excited to announce that our urbanism + VR work at @numenavr has been nominated for a @VRAwards in the Social Impact category!
The project, @SpectraCities, is a virtual city for imagining and prototyping cities for the future. This is an immersive, multi-platform community that dreams of building joyful, enriching, and sustainable lifestyles.
Deeply thankful to @ryanrz, Matt Kudo and @nickkauf for the wonderful collaboration🙏
Coming up tomorrow at 10:00am EST! Don't miss our second virtual design workshop for a real Spectra project. This might be our most interactive session yet so bring your ideas! https://t.co/Ml9zhrGNvr
We're looking forward to our next workshop on virtual interior design for an IRL project this thursday! Make sure to rsvp on discord for a reminder and watch the visitor center channel for the link! https://t.co/FWT8v6afvl
¡Buen domingo, amigos de X! El jueves hay un taller en @SpectraCities sobre diseño de interiores. Más información en el servidor de este proyecto hermoso👇🏼❤️

This week @SpectraCities hosted a permaculture and agroforestry workshop in @Spatial_io.
It was surprising how well normally offline activities translated to VR.
Can’t wait to implement these techniques on the farm.
