Headlines: +88,000 jobs. Unemployment falls to 6.6%.
Reality: Canada lost 112,000 jobs in the first four months of 2026.
Much of May's job growth came from construction, recreation, transportation, accommodation and food services. Important sectors, but not necessarily evidence of a strong, broad based economic expansion.
Meanwhile housing sales remain weak, projects are being cancelled, power of sale activity is rising, and manufacturing employment remains under pressure.
The question isn't whether May was a good month.
The question is whether this is a real recovery or simply a bounce after a weak start to the year.
@sanfilippo_rony@AntonioTweets2 are you saying you are ok with someone putting a camera in front of your home, filming you every time you leave the home and putting it on social media?
@JayGenXer@junonewscom wait… how would it be “Canada First” to “end the tariff pain” exactly? The US sees it differently - it would be America First. And any “deal” reached would clearly be first and foremost prioritized to be America First. So not sure I follow here…
@mario4thenorth Yeah it’s true - he’s bad at multitasking. That explains why he couldn’t hold on to his seat and run for PM in a federal election at the same time!
@Colly1960@gator_gum Those paper straws have PFOA or “forever chemicals” used to improve the overall viscosity of the straw. Problem is those chemicals remain in your body forever. Best to use steel (more environmentally friendly) or plastic straws
@MarcNixon24 this is obviously an AI image - if you look up “Global Tech 150” TV” it just goes to this one video. What is “Global Tech” anyway - never heard of em.
@gator_gum@Gi_Jack18@auxillaryinput what about classism? by dismissing those who have lost jobs, or can’t find jobs, or can barely stay afloat - in other words people who feel that their country is “broken” - aren’t you just being classist?
@gator_gum No offense but clearly this is clearly not the official image of this movies opening. How is this NOT misinformation? I get that it may be funny but it’s no different than any other meme misinformation post.
@MarcNixon24 dude Trump literally said he preferred a Liberal government - he did this and now they are just deflecting.. stop falling for this nonsense - you are better than this!
@turn_bon_bon@MarcNixon24 wait are you Canadian or something? Surely you can’t ignore all the bullying that Canada has received over the last year?! We didn’t start this - just remember that!
@MarcNixon24 i have to say its been sad to see you go from a trusted data-driven analyst on TikTok to BS meme posting on here. When you look at the same Abacus poll just look at the favourability results it’s clear that Carney is NOT a flop and Pierre will never get elected.
@mario4thenorth dude read the article first. the customer wants ratepayers to pay billions for an electrical connection to a data center. Instead they need to pony up that amount themselves as why would ratepayers pay for it? This is not the story you think it is
@BallsKentucky@EricDLombardi this is the correct response - the customer should pay for this connection directly. something tells me they want the government to pay and then it’s get absorbed into your electricity bill increase - obviously that’s not happening
