To anyone disappointed that #at40 is rebroadcasting 1974’s “Top 10 Producers of the 70’s” countdown on @SIRIUSXM this morning, please know the show is terrific. It’s my favorite AT40 special countdown. Filled with terrific stories and hits big and small. Worth the listen.
Seven songs on this 1970 #AT40 are still hanging on from the very first AT40 show 8 weeks earlier. Alive & Kicking, Freda Payne, BJ Thomas, Stevie Wonder, Eric Burdon/War, Carpenters—who’ve spent the entire period in the Top 10—and Bread at #3.
Here’s my annual essay looking at some trends in the world of music, plus the playlist of my favorite songs of the past year. Enjoy! https://t.co/6U2Cd3Gx6D
It has arrived—The just-published hardcover Joel Whitburn’s “Top Pop Singles Vol. 2: 1990-2022” book. The last project Joel Whitburn started before he passed away last year. So fresh it contains a list of every number one song through September 30th of 2023!
@porpster This is the 2nd week in a row that the #at40 featured on @70sOn7 contained a hit by the Ritchie Family. Last week had Best Disco in Town, which does a callback to this hit, Brazil. There were their only Top 40 hits.
@BismrkBear I never cared about this song, or the artist-who got famous by appearing in the film American Graffiti. But oddly, back when this song was a hit on #at40, I had a dream I went to see Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids at a fair in Toledo, Ohio. Weird- because I lived in NYC.
@TerenceBegleyNJ I’m going to defend the Ritchie Damily “ best disco in town” here. it’s a really charming summation of some of the earliest disco hits, during its first wave And the Jaques Morali track, retiring some great “Philly sound” musicians, it’s really strong. #at40
